Nashoba Learning Group (NLG) is looking for motivated candidates for our  Summer Internship Program to work with individuals with autism/ related disorders at our School and Adult programs!  The Therapist Intern position provides opportunities to gain experience with state-of-the-art teaching procedures while helping individuals with autism unlock their potential. NLG places a large emphasis on training and professional development as well as rewarding career path options.


What is Nashoba Learning Group?
NLG was founded in 2002 to offer a different life trajectory for individuals with autism and their families. Our organization uses evidence-based teaching procedures, delivered by highly trained and supervised teaching staff, and customized for each individual in partnership with their family. Today NLG is able to provide outstanding, individualized education, training, and intervention services for over 170 individuals aged three to adult, who are from over 60 communities across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. NLG strives to enable individuals to achieve their potential and become productive members of society throughout their lives.


Overall Position Responsibilities:

  • Providing highly individualized, one-to-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to 2 students/ a small group of members per the daily schedule and according to the protocols established by the Clinical Director/ Clinical Leader.
  • All Interns will be trained on each student’s/ members' academic programs, daily living skills, vocational skills, and individualized behavior plan.
  • Consistently collecting accurate data for academic programs, daily living skills, vocational skills, and behavior (frequency, antecedent-behavior-consequence, duration, etc.)
  • Taking the students/members on community outings, when necessary according to the objectives outlined in each specific student’s/ member's IEP and/or behavior plan
  • Interns CANNOT drive students/function as a driver for NLG unless they are 21+ years old AND have completed the correct insurance paperwork
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals within NLG and while out in the community.
  • Ensuring that all materials used and the classroom as a whole are left in a neat and orderly fashion at the end of each school day.
  • Interns are responsible for attending the following monthly meetings:
  • The Neighborhood meetings- First Friday of every month at 8:30 am
  • Team Meetings: This meeting is to keep all team members up to date with their student's / member's program and/or behavior plan.
  • Following NLG’s emergency procedures whenever needed.
     

Qualifications

Interns must be able to commit to the following:

  • Be punctual and prepared to work Monday through Friday 8:30 am until 3:30 pm
  • September-June NLG accepts part-time Interns, however, the Intern must be able to work at least 3 days a week
  • During the summer months, NLG requires that Interns work full-time (Monday through Friday 8:30-3:30)
  • Commit to at least 10 weeks in the position
  • Be in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in a related area
  • Related degree programs: (including but NOT limited to)
    • Applied Behavior Analysis
    • Special Education
    • Psychology
    • Social Work
    • Human Services
    • Sociology
    • Education
    • Communication Disorders
  • Have at least two references that will attest to Intern’s interpersonal skills, energy, work ethic, commitment to providing optimal education to children with autism, a love for children in general, their ability to work on a team, leadership skills, integrity, ability to accept and learn from feedback and skill in ABA.
  • Have the ability to physically perform all job duties, including carrying students up to 50 pounds, keeping students safe and in close proximity at all times, particularly on outings
  • Pass a background and CORI check.
  • A driver’s license in good standing (if over 21 years of age)

Supervision and Performance Assessment:

  • The Recruiting Coordinator will provide overall supervision to the Interns throughout the summer.
  • The Classroom Assistants, Clinical Staff, and Lead Therapists will report to the Recruiting Coordinator about overall intern performance (including any concerns if needed)
  • Nashoba Learning Group adheres to the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis in its management of employees as well as in its teaching of children. Performance requirements are clearly specified, performance is measured frequently, feedback is given immediately and mastery of particular skills allows access to higher-level skills.

 

Supervision for ABA Therapist Job Responsibilities:
Interns should touch base with the Lead Therapist and Clinical Staff for students they are trained on when looking for guidance
All interns will be evaluated on general performance, cooperation, teamwork, and maintenance of the student’s books at the conclusion of the summer. The Lead Therapist and Clinical Director for each of the intern’s students will complete the evaluation (one evaluation per case)

Pay: $17.00 per hour
