As a Software Engineer I on the Diagnostic Software Development team, you will contribute to the advancement of commercial software solutions and analysis platforms within our Bioinformatics and Software Development group. Leveraging a strong technical background with expertise in software testing and functional design, you will deliver innovative and high-quality software solutions for genetics data processing, reporting, and visualization needs. Working collaboratively and cross-functionally with other software developers, engineers, and scientists, you will play a critical role in developing modular, web-based software applications and supporting them with automated testing, effective technical documentation and high-quality internal tools and processes.

What you will do

  • Contribute to the development and testing of regulated commercial software applications that directly meet Asuragen’s research and clinical market needs
  • Define, develop, and document novel software capabilities and processes in support of Asuragen’s commercial product initiatives
  • Contribute primarily to software testing and test infrastructure (including CI/CD processes) and secondarily to functional software design and development
  • Collaborate with other bioinformatics software developers, scientists and interdisciplinary teams
  • Train other software developers on testing approaches, methods, and technology
  • Identify, promote, defend, and implement internal process improvements and technical advancements
  • Actively participate in an Agile software development process and contribute to design, planning, estimation, execution and verification testing activities
  • Effectively communicate technical topics and project outcomes both internally and externally
Qualifications

Who You Are & What You Bring

  • A natural problem solver with an innovative mindset coupled with strong technical acumen
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience in Computer Science or a related field
  • Experience testing commercial software applications, ideally for web browser-based solutions
  • Experience developing or testing software deployable to Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016/2019 operating systems; familiarity working with Unix/Linux preferred
  • Expert working knowledge of C# or a similar object-oriented language; experience with Python and JavaScript preferred
  • Extensive experience with commercial software development tools including professional IDEs (Visual Studio, VS Code, PyCharm), version control with Git, and either Jira or Azure DevOps
  • Extensive experience writing unit and integration tests, and understanding of test-driven design
  • Experience developing and executing automated tests using modern testing frameworks (e.g. Selenium, x/nUnit, Katalon Studio); experience with performance testing also preferred
  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for working in a multi-disciplinary team setting
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
