BWH Partial Hospital Clinical Coordinator - LICSW ~ Lowell

Bournewood Health Systems is seeking a Partial Hospital Program Coordinator to provide mental health and substance abuse treatment services to adolescent and adults in a partial hospital program setting in our Lowell facility. Under the supervision of the Ambulatory Service Manager, the Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all operational and clinical activities of the Mental Health Partial Hospital program. The program coordinator will oversee two partial hospital programs and two intensive outpatient programs.

Responsible for developing and evaluating the group program, evaluating staff, marketing and facilitating communication with external referral sources, ensuring the programs meet the requirements of accrediting and or regulatory agencies as well as contracted insurers for clients admitted to the department, assessing the effectiveness of treatment through quality monitoring care delivered. Supervises or delegates supervision to experienced clinicians for all clinical and non-clinical staff for both adult and adolescent programs.   Ensures the assignment of case managers for all clients and that documentation of care meet standards established within each program.

Qualifications:   Independent licensed clinician. LICSW is required.  Advanced degree is required.  Experience in mental health and substance use treatment for adults and adolescents.  Demonstrated prior progressive leadership and management positions with successful achievement of skills in both clinical and management areas mandatory.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital and department standards that reflect Bournewood and Medicaid standards for the operation of an adult and adolescent partial hospitalization program.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the both the adolescent and adult partial hospital program.
  • Displays strong leadership and managerial skills.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence in procedures and patient care based on established theory; maintains quality assurance standards for patient care.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members regarding patient needs and treatment plan.
  • Assesses patient, records and reports pertinent data to the physician and other members of the patient s clinical team.
  • Utilizes crisis intervention techniques when needed.
  • Provide clinical supervision of all clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the current version of the Diagnosis and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders principles and techniques for on-site reviews and program evaluations
  • Work with the Ambulatory Service Manager to evaluate program outcomes and to ensure culturally appropriate continuum of services for clients.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the program, making adjustments as needed.
  • Ensures that staff are participating in ongoing supervision and educational activities and maintains records of in-services within the department and supervision for all staff both individually or through group process.
  • Works with the Ambulatory Service Manager in developing and determining the budgetary requirements of the program.
  • Maintains a data management system ensuring timely and accurate data collection. Compiles quantitative and qualitative data daily, weekly, monthly and uses data to determine status of program activities.
  • Participates in committees within the organization and attends meeting as scheduled for hospital.

Essential Competencies:

  • Leadership qualities, ability to direct, guide, supervise staff with developing a team, following policy and procedures, and delivering patient interventions.
  • Knowledge of insurance parameters, level of care criteria for admission, continued stay and discharge as well as exclusion criteria for each level of care.
  • Understanding of bio-psychosocial issues and knowledge of treatment modalities for mental illness and substance use disorders for all ages
  • Awareness of cultural, gender, and age related issues with various patient populations
  • Meets and maintains required standards of practice including updating license and educational requirements of the discipline in which licensed.
  • Is competent in level of knowledge and understanding of hospital, policies/practices, Ambulatory policies and procedures, external agencies such as the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS), Joint Commission (JC) and, if applicable, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Departments of Mental Health (DMH) and Public Health (DPH) including the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS), and DMH regulations regarding patient rights.
  • Is competent in delivering patient care that is trauma informed and patient centered. As indicated by:
    • Provides care that is kind, collaborative and compassionate.
    • Able to defuse power struggles.
    • Appropriate assessment of clients for a history of trauma
    • Recognize/assess a range of trauma-related behaviors
    • Implement trauma-sensitive interventions with people served
