Habitat Charlotte’s Volunteer Services team is seeking a paid intern to assist Volunteer Services staff with communication, engagement, and appreciation activities for volunteers. The intern will produce content for the volunteer newsletter and coordinate its production. The intern will coordinate and create move-in updates for volunteers. The intern will prepare for several volunteer appreciation events and efforts, and enter data in Salesforce so volunteers can be thanked promptly. The intern will also assist with hosting out-of-town college groups. Ideal candidates should be a creative self-starter with a knack for problem solving. Candidates should have reliable transportation to visit construction sites and ReStores.


The intern may receive college credit if applicable. They will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of different people, to create a portfolio of content, learn volunteer management skills, and have the opportunity to see the inner workings of a leading nonprofit.


This is a short-term role with an anticipated end date of 04/30/2020.  No benefits or paid time off will be offered during this time.


Job Description


Basic Function:  The Volunteer Engagement Intern/Temporary helps foster the volunteer experience at Habitat Charlotte through communication and appreciation efforts.  This position works closely with the Director of Volunteer Services, the Volunteer Services team, Young Adult Engagement Coordinator, and the Marketing and Communications Team

  • Work flexible hours, primarily Tues-Sat, including some evening and Sun-Mon commitments

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate production of March and May volunteer newsletter
  • Produce content for volunteer newsletter – articles, photographs and videos
  • Coordinate production and distribution of move-in updates including writing content and photographing houses for move-in updates
  • Prepare supplies and communication for volunteer appreciation events
  • Assist Young Adult Engagement Coordinator with hosting out of town college groups
  • Participate in other volunteer appreciation and retention efforts
  • Represent Habitat Charlotte at community events
  • Enter data about volunteers in Salesforce so the volunteers can be thanked promptly

Level of Authority:              Works with minimal supervision


Type of Position:                  Temporary and/or internship, 10-15 hours a week for term of 12-15 weeks



  • Ability to sit at desk and use computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to stand and walk construction job sites for several hours at a time
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. with or without assistance
  •  Ability to operate phone
  • Reliable transportation
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including experience writing newsletters, press releases, or blog post
  • Familiarity with digital photography
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar database
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office


The successful candidate must pass a drug test and a clean background check is required.
