The YMCA of the North Shore provides child care services throughout the North Shore at 9 Early Learning Centers in Massachusetts.  With continued growth in the field of Early Education and Care, the Y is proud to provide career placement and learning opportunities for future Educators.  All of our early learning programs are licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Early Education and Care and uphold quality standards and expectations.

 

At Y child care programs, Infants and toddlers develop trust and security, preschoolers experience early literacy and learn about their world.  We know that having quality, dependable care is important for working families and we employ qualified, experienced, and compassionate teachers to build upon a culture of learning, creativity, and nurturing.  

 

Student Teaching Summary: 

 

The Y Early Learning Centers provides an environment rich for the nurturing and development of children.  Classrooms are newly furnished with access to developmentally appropriate and recommended teaching tools and materials.  Our centers are filled with natural light, creative learning spaces, and newly designed playground areas for outdoor exploration. 

 

Through a Student Teaching placement at a Y Early Learning Center,  Early Education students will apply knowledge gained through coursework in a classroom in support of becoming a certified Early Educator.  Student Teachers will have the opportunity to work with experienced classroom teachers who will provide mentoring around licensing and regulations, curriculum development, behavioral techniques, communication with parents and guardians, creating developmentally appropriate environments, and more.

 

A placement at the Y will support student teacher’s in working toward meeting Teacher Certification requirements of the Department of Early Education and Care.  A complete onboarding and orientation will be provided prior to classroom placement and student teachers will have the opportunity to work with Early Learning Directors to develop their learning path based on areas of interest. Student Teaching hours are unpaid. 

 

Length of Service:

 

The Y provides flexibility in assisting Student Teachers to meet their experiential learning needs.  Student teachers placements must be a minimum of one semester long or up to 9 months. Hours may vary based on school requirements, but must meet a minimum of 12 hours per week.

 

Application Review Period and Deadline:

Applications and placements are made on a  rolling basis and contingent upon availability at preferred work sites.

Eligibility
  1. Applicants must be attending  college or university and seeking experience within the field of early education or a related field of study to be considered for student teaching placement.

  2. All student teachers must complete and submit an application to be considered for a position with YNS.  

  3. Experience working with children 0-5 years old preferred, but not required.

  4. Demonstrated interest in obtaining Teacher Certification through the Massachusetts Department of Education and Care.

  5. Student Teachers must work with a hiring managers to submit and complete a learning agreement submitted to the Director of Operations or Executive Director and HR Office.
