Rockhurst University invites applications for the position of Department Chair for Physical Therapy and Exercise Science Education. Rockhurst University is a renowned private Jesuit institution located in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, whose mission of learning, leadership and service mirrors the core values of the physical therapy profession. Rockhursts fully accredited DPT program is housed in the Saint LukesTM College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS). We are welcoming our new university president, Dr. Sandra Cassady, PT, PhD, FAACVPR and are excited to continue to expand our health science offerings as well as community outreach under her proven leadership. The PT department is distinctive for close faculty-student interactions with a contemporary curriculum focused on the development of outstanding clinicians with excellent clinical and professional skills. Students enrolled in the DPT program may take advantage of a dual enrollment in the College of Business, Influence, and Information Analysis (BIIA). Students may choose a DPT-MBA or DPT-MA program, preparing students with skills increasingly necessary for health care administration and leadership roles across a range of healthcare organizations. The Department of Physical Therapy and Exercise Science and CNHS are committed to enhancing the diversity and inclusiveness of the campus community and the curriculum. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in higher education leadership. A terminal academic doctoral degree is required at time of appointment. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

 

We seek a dynamic leader to advance Rockhurst University's Physical Therapy Education programs strong reputation and impact on the profession of physical therapy. This 11-month tenure-track faculty position includes responsibilities specific to teaching, engaging in scholarly activities, mentoring faculty, participating in service, program development, serving as a leader for CNHS initiatives, and overseeing the departmental budget, outcomes assessment and accreditation expectations.

 

Required Qualifications for this position include:

  • an earned terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, DHS).
  • possession of or be eligible for a Missouri PT license.
  • a history of achievement in teaching, scholarship and service as a full-time faculty member (minimum of five years of experience).
  • an ability and willingness to teach courses in her/his area of clinical or research expertise.
  • excellent interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications for this position include:

  • a history of program leadership, higher education leadership, program development, and curriculum development experience.
  • an ongoing research agenda that includes grant funding and publication.
  • a current understanding of trends and changes in the health care field.
  • an awareness of and interest in the educational mission of the Jesuit higher education.
