During the school year, Kids in the Game is rooted in dozens of schools around New York City, offering recess, after-school, physical education, early drop off fitness, creative movement, and sports instruction.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for an ambitious, organized, and collaborative Finance Manager to oversee finance and accounting operations at Kids in the Game. The Finance Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all aspects of financial operations within the organization. This position requires a dynamic individual with a strong background in financial reporting, analysis, and strategic financial planning. The Finance Manager will be responsible for leading financial initiatives, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization. They must be able to work cross-functionally with other department heads in finance-related areas; develop and implement new initiatives to strengthen our financial accounting, forecasting and reporting processes; and manage a team of two direct reports and seasonal finance interns.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to possess a strong understanding of financial principles, accounting practices, and financial analysis techniques, along with 3+ years of experience implementing these principles and practices in a small to mid-sized business. You’ll be expected to present complex financial concepts in a clear and understandable manner, be proactive in identifying issues and developing practical solutions, and be a strategic partner to other departments.

This is a full time, OT exempt role based in New York City and requires in-person work at least 4 days per week. Our regular schedule is Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm. Evening and weekend work may be required to meet project / reporting deadlines, meet with remote / support staff based in other global regions, as well as complete professional development requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Forecasting

    • Report directly to the Chief Executive Officer in driving company budgeting, profitability analysis, and financial modeling; conduct in-depth financial analysis to support strategic decision making

    • Build budgets and forecast spending by working with team leaders and analyzing financials

    • Analyze company’s historical and current school portfolio and forecast the potential financial impact of incremental growth and new customers for the following school year

    • Analyze gross margins across various business segments, support the building of program/financial models, including pricing models

    • Evaluate and refine pricing strategies to maximize profitability

    • Analyze and present business segments gross margin on the monthly basis and provide recommendations to improve efficiency and reach economies of scale

    • Create P&L models for real time reporting on profit gross margins and operating expenses

    • Implement financial work flows e.g. review year-to-year financial performance, create forecasts for the next school year

    • Conducting financial reporting in Quickbooks and analyze month to month financial reports

    • Manage cash flow to ensure liquidity and optimize financial resources

    • Implement strategies to enhance cash flow forecasting accuracy

  • Accounts Receivable / Payable

    • Supervise the day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations

    • Create and process invoices, accounts, and payments

    • Review the Accounts Receivable Aging Reports on a weekly basis

    • Manage the daily Accounts Payable process, including following up on vendor payments and vendor relationships

    • Connect with internal staff and as well as partner schools and customers to secure payment for outstanding invoices

  • Independent Projects & Presentations

    • Build presentations and financial projections using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, v-lookup formulas, and 3 statement financial models

    • Lead independent projects related to finance initiatives, delegate tasks to interns, and oversee all components of the project

    • Conduct independent industry research and analysis to make recommendations on pricing and program models

  • Strategy & Investments

    • Identify and assess financial risks that could impact cash flow.

    • Develop strategies to manage and reduce debt; Evaluate debt levels and interest rates to optimize the cost of capital.

    • Contribute to the development and execution of the organization's 2-3 year financial strategy

    • Provide recommendations for improvements to enhance overall financial performance

    • Participate in due diligence process for investments / acquisitions; research potential external investors and perform valuation analysis

    • Make recommendations around investment or acquisition priorities

 

Compensation: 

  • $66,000 - $72,000 base annual salary (based on relevant work experience, education & degree level, demonstrated skills, certifications, etc.)

  • Annual bonuses + annual performance-based salary raises

Qualifications

KEY QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3+ years experience working with a finance/accounting department in a full time analyst or manager level role (required)

  • Possess a Master’s Degree in a finance related field, e.g. MS in Accounting, MS in Finance, MBA (preferred)

  • Excellent proficiency in financial modeling and forecasting; highly proficient in Quickbooks or equivalent accounting software

  • Excellent proficiency in online communication / data management tools, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Incredible organizational skills and attention to detail; familiarity with project management tools (e.g. Asana, Monday.com) is preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and work cooperatively with interns and other team members to complete projects

  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills; must be able to solve complex problems, develop workable solutions, and build new workflows

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to prepare and present PowerPoint / Google Slides decks on company financials for internal and external stakeholders
