POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Fund Development and Communications position will provide leadership to the fund development and communications functions at the Valley Shore YMCA. The development responsibilities include growing the Fund Development efforts, managing the administrative aspects of the annual and capital campaigns as well as, organizing special events and increasing community awareness. The communications responsibilities include creating, managing, and implementing an integrated communications plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage of the Annual Giving Campaign in collaboration with the CEO and volunteers.
  2. Develop and execute a major gift donor acquisition and cultivation plan.
  3. Plan, manage and attend special events (such as Annual Campaign Kick Off, Spin-a-thon, Golf Tournament etc.) and provide coaching to campaigners.
  4. Actively research donor prospects (attend development and capital campaign committee meetings).
  5. Coordinate and maintain donor databases, prepare, and mail out donor invoices and letters.
  6. Input all campaign pledges, gifts and administer thank you letters in a timely fashion.
  7. Research and apply for grants and government funding opportunities.
  8. Create, manage, and implement integrated YMCA communication plan. Produce high-high quality deliverables including monthly member newsletters, regular donor newsletters, press releases, flyers and any other external facing materials.
  9. Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong computer skills, including word-processing, spreadsheet, billing, fundraising systems and creative software
  • Strong creative writing and storytelling skills
  • Strong analytical ability to problem-solve complex financial transactions
  • Able to evaluate and self-learn computer applications
  • Knowledge of People skills, excellent written and verbal communication, highly organized
  • Precision and extraordinary attention to detail
  • Strong office organizational skills, including both written and electronic records
  • Sound discretion and judgement in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to accomplish organization goals
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments
    of the community
