Position:                     Extended Care Camp Counselor       

Department:              Youth & Camp 

Classification:            Seasonal, non-benefitted, At-Will, June 2024 - Aug. 2024

Reports to:                 Reports to the Youth & Camp Director

 

Summary:

Under the direction of the Camp & Youth Director, the Extended Care Camp Counselor will interact with and supervise campers ages 5-13 years old. This position is specifically 3:00pm-6:00pm daily, Monday-Friday working with campers in our Extended Care program and assisting with the end of the regular camp day.

 

Extended Care Camp Counselor will assist with planning and implementing afternoon camp activities for a group of campers enrolled in the Extended Care program. Work to ensure that the end of the camp day operates in a safe manner at all times, and assure the implementation of group activities while creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for allExtended Camp Care Counselor are expected to uphold and role model the values of Camp Shalom.

 

Areas of Responsibility

  • Must have the knowledge of campers’ whereabouts at all times.
  • Actively facilitate camper development in recreational activities, social skills development, values, multi-cultural and environmental awareness. 
  • Maintain a positive attitude and conduct with the staff team as a positive role model. 
  • Adhere to and enforce camp policies and procedures in a safe manner at all times.  
  • Attendance at staff meetings and pre-camp training (mandatory) 
  • Be prompt to all work shifts and assignments adhering to the daily camp schedule and operating calendar.
  • Maintains all camp equipment and supplies. 
  • Care about and give attention to campers’ needs. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Camp Leadership.

Qualifications

Qualifications and competencies:

Education and/or experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of age (over 18 years old preferred) 

 

Specific Certification Requirements:

  • Current American Red Cross CPR for Child and Adult or willingness to obtain
  • Current American Red Cross First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
  • If over 18 years old - Completion and clearance of background fingerprint assessment via the JSV Specific Live scan location.
  • If under 18 years old - current Work Permit

 

** Employees at JSV may have availability to attend in-house Certification courses, please check with the Camp Director as to availability.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, members, parents, donors and the general public

Reasoning Ability:       

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Must possess the ability to make sound independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Also required to climb, push, and pull. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. 
  • Ability to work both in an outside and inside environment, different temperature extremes. 
  • Ability and willingness to get in the swimming pool to supervise swimming time.
