Avivo is offering a $3,000 hiring bonus for this position. The Service Area Director of Community Chemical and Mental Health will lead and mentor the interdisciplinary team in our Community Support Program, Adult Mental Health, Targeted Case Management, Care Coordination and Mental Health Clinic. The Director is part of the leadership team that also includes admissions and operations, Integrated Mental Health and Chemical Health/245G programs. This position will be responsible for overseeing clinical best practices, oversight and supervision of staff, and able to maintain strong, competent and high functioning teams; develop and promote strong partnerships, inclusive of collaborative and collateral resources, acquisition of funding sources, acquired knowledge of licensing authorities and key stakeholders; ensure integrative programming and clinical coordination, collaboration and communication across the division and organization; ensure and monitor and oversee program budgets and financial sustainability of the service area; oversee and monitor the Service Area’s quality management system; seek out and oversee new, innovative service opportunities; and ensuring culturally responsive services to individuals/families in the service area.




  • Leadership and Supervision
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, retention and development of a diverse workforce, ensuring adherence with all applicable organization policies and procedures.
  • Interview, hire and train for direct staff roles, develop and evaluate staff based on documented needs and desired outcomes for programs/services
  • Ensure the appropriate supervision of all professional, paraprofessional and support staff.
  • Manage and oversee the disciplinary process of staff not meeting standards, and ensure all actions are consistent with established organization policies. Consult with Vice President and Human Resources prior to implementing disciplinary actions
  • Lead and supervise staff, providing ongoing coaching, training, support, and an atmosphere for open and direct communication; establishing and clearly communicating performance expectations and ensuring effective delegation; and, conducting timely performance and salary reviews
  • Maintain individual productivity goals. Ensure team members maintain productivity goals.
  • Maintain compliance with organization and licensing board ethical standards and standards of conduct. Ensure regular discussion of ethical and boundaries with teams.
  • Ensure team is appropriately trained through onboarding and ongoing training to effectively perform job scope and duties.
  • Attend all organization-wide, division-wide and service area meetings.
  • Provide regular monthly group supervision & regular monthly individual supervision
  • Ensure cross training of staff to ensure appropriate coverage
Education & Experience



  • Masters Degree in a Mental Health field with current licensure in good standing through a MN State Licensing Board.
  • Licensure: Must be licensed by a designated licensure board in the State of Minnesota, e.g., Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy, Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy, etc. in the State of Minnesota, or may have dual licensure as an LADC in good standing.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience with community-based programs. Experience with programs serving individuals with dual diagnoses helpful.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in mental health and chemical health clinical services.
  • Experience creating and managing budgets effectively.
  • Experience with and/or commitment to working in a diverse, continuum of services in a fast-paced, growing organization.
  • Experience with and/or a demonstrated commitment to developing and delivering culturally responsive services.
  • Dually-licensed professional (mental health and chemical health) desired.
  • Experience with programs serving individuals with dual diagnoses.
