Description: Review assessments and intakes for appropriateness for admission verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations, communicate with all departments to facilitate admissions.

​Openings:  Full-time, part-time and per diem - days, evenings, awake overnights and weekends

Qualifications: Candidates must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment. You must have one year experience working in mental health setting, or in a hospital admissions department. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to triage and assess prospective clients, and proficient computer skills. A degree is Human Services is preferred.

Job Summary:

Provides support to the Manager of Admissions. Completes all triage, assessment and intake responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

Facilitates admissions to the hospital.

• Reviews clinical information from assessments and intakes for appropriateness for admission.
• Verifies insurance benefits and gets authorizations for levels of care
• Communicates with other individuals and departments within the hospital structure to facilitate admissions in a professional manner
• Maintains census
• Performs triage, assessment and intake procedures
• Maintains patient transportation funds
• Calls referral sources three times per day to inform them of bed availability
• Any other duties as assigned by supervisor

Essential Competencies:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to assess a client’s hospital needs through conversation with referral source
• Understanding of mental illness, common diagnoses and behaviors
• Basic computer skills

Minimum Qualifications:

At least one year experience in mental health field or in performing intakes and admissions. Bachelors degree preferred.

Physical Criteria:

• Must be able to communicate effectively
• Ability to operate the telephone, computer, printer and copy machine in daily shift activities
• Must be able to sit for up to 8 hours
