The Atlantic Council seeks a talented organizer, thinker, and communicator for a full-time Assistant Director position to serve in its GeoEconomics Center. The Assistant Director will be an integral part of the team supporting the Center’s broad mission with a focus on the Chinese economy and trends in US trade and investment flows. Reporting to the Center’s Senior Director, the Assistant Director’s responsibilities will be dedicated to managing the Center’s ambitious programming on the Chinese economy and G7 economic engagement with China. The Assistant Director will support events and research, represent the Center in meetings with external stakeholders, and support the Center’s fundraising activities. The Assistant Director will also support the Center’s general data analysis and data visualization work. The Assistant Director will also be able to publish with the Council on the Chinese economy and US international economic policy.
The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, communicate effectively, and enjoy the complexity of helping to build a rapidly growing program. The candidate should have a strong background in economics, finance, and an interest in foreign affairs. The position requires a strong aptitude for organizing programs and events, excellent data analytics skills, superior writing abilities, extraordinary attention to detail, and a proven aptitude to manage day-to-day responsibilities of an ever-changing Center.

This position is based in our Washington DC headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $55,000. Applications submitted by April 15, 2024, will be prioritized for consideration.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage high-level convenings that facilitate dialogue on the Chinese economy and US economic relations with China;
- Support data analysis and visualization component of the Center’s work including multi-year projects relied upon by government officials and senior business leaders;
- Assist in stewarding supporters of the Center’s body of work on China;
- Represent the Center in meetings with external stakeholders;
- Conduct research as needed to support Center activities; including written analysis and briefings on current events; publish under their own byline;
- Support the organization and execution of GeoEconomics Center events; liaising with the office of external relations and other relevant programs and helping to prepare briefing material for guests coming to Washington and for trips abroad;
- Assist in the supervision and management of Program Assistants and Center interns;
- Support in implementing the communications and promotion strategy around core events and programming, including social media crafting and promotion, multimedia, website management, and follow up;
- Perform research and proposal writing tasks as assigned.
