POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Wellness Director at the Valley Shore YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused Health and Wellness programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensures high quality programs and services that meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, pursuing new trends, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed.
- Creates and schedules classes, personal training, and other identified wellness activities that arise.
- Prepares and distributes marketing and distribution of program information.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteer teams. Monitors and controls payroll activities. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Supervises all Wellness Department staff, including Wellness Coordinators and subordinate staff.
- Manage conflict, problems, and emergencies, taking appropriate actions without waiting for directions.
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
- Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Compiles program statistics; monitors and evaluates effectiveness and participation in programs; implements survey collection procedures and responds to customer feedback.
- Assists in development of program budget to meet fiscal objectives and maintains, controls and evaluates program income and expenditures of program activities; ensures proper recording and collection of revenue, performs vendor negotiations and monitoring of purchased activities.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Provides for upkeep of fitness center and wellness facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environments support healthy living activities
