WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are actively seeking coaches, college students, and youth development specialists to join our dynamic team of after-school coaches and activity specialists from September 2023 through June 2024. As a valued member of Kids in the Game, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our after-school programming, which focuses on incorporating educational and engaging sports and fitness classes during the traditional after-school hours.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

In the role of an After School Coach or Specialist, your responsibilities will include planning, organizing, and implementing a diverse range of weekly activities for children and young adults, ranging from Pre K to middle school. These activities aim to promote creative play, skill development, and foster individual, group, and team-based instruction. Additionally, you may also provide assistance with homework and school work during breaks between games and activities. Depending on your availability and skill set, you can expect to work between 10 to 20 hours per week, earning a competitive hourly rate. Our coaches and specialists typically work in various schools throughout the week.

Weekly Schedule: Your weekly schedule as an after-school coach will involve working approximately 10-15 hours per week. These programs are located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. The majority of afterschool programs run from 3pm to 6pm, five days a week. Additionally, some programs may require extended half-day schedules once per week, which run from 1pm to 5pm.

As an After School Coach or Specialist, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading age-appropriate sports lessons and group games for 15-20 children in school-based and after-school settings. 

  • Implementing an engaging curriculum that can be adapted to accommodate various learning styles and developmental needs of the children. 

  • Displaying patience and utilizing positive behavior management skills to effectively manage children's behaviors and respond to their needs. 

  • Specialists will be responsible for leading activities and games within their specific field of expertise, such as dance/creative movement, art, sports, etc. 

Compensation: This is a part-time, hourly position. We offer competitive hourly rates in the range of $20-23 / hour for after school coaches based on prior experience as a general coach, teaching, youth development specialist, or activity specialist.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE GOING TO LOVE ABOUT YOU

Our ideal coach would meet some or all of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the areas of K-12 Education, Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field is strongly preferred

  • Possess at least two years of prior coaching experience or several years of experience playing specialized sports in competitive or recreational settings

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to relate to younger children, work with different age groups, and partner with school staff to support children’s physical and emotional needs

  • Be available to work Monday through Friday during after school hours (3-6pm)
