JOB PURPOSE:
As part of the Parish Management Team, the Director of Catechesis and Evangelization is the primary facilitator of the formation efforts of the parish. The incumbent will form the department and volunteers into an effective Evangelization Team with a shared vision and direction to improve and grow current evangelization and faith formation ministries under the guidance of and in collaboration with the vision of the Pastor and the Disciples of the Hearts of Jesus & Mary.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES:
The Director of Catechesis and Evangelization is responsible to assess the needs of and assure the development and implementation of Catechetical and Evangelization ministries and programs. The position is responsible to establish and maintain parish-wide programs including the following functions:
- All adult, youth, and child formation efforts, including OCIA, youth groups and child sacramental preparation.
- Leadership and management of all aspects of the Evangelization Team.
- Recruiting and directing large volunteer teams.

Exempt, salaried, full-time: 40+ hours per week with benefits
Able to work flexible schedule (nights, weekends)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):
OCIA, Marriage Preparation and Baptism Preparation Programs
Develops and administers all aspects of programming; working in conjunction with staff, volunteers, and Chaplains. Collaborates with the Chaplain on programming structure, Canon Law and church teaching related to the sacraments of baptism, first communion, confirmation and marriage.
Children’s Religious Formation Programs
Establishes multiple programs to properly form children including weekly religious education, sacramental preparation, summer camps, and others as needed.
Youth Ministry
Assures the establishment and maintenance of youth programs for middle and high school students. Works with volunteers to ensure active and engaging programming in accordance with the Disciples of Jesus and Mary vision.
Leadership and Management
- Actively participates in and collaborates with the Management Team comprised of clergy and fellow Directors and Managers under the guidance of the Pastor.
- Coordinates and manages the Evangelization Team. The Director will promote program excellence, stability, and growth of participation in existing ministries and will oversee the planning, organization and development of all Sacramental Preparation and Faith Formation programs in coordination with parish and school staff.
- Responsible for assuring parish catechetical and evangelical initiatives by effectively establishing the overall programming in the parish including the following:
- Selecting quality catechetical material in accord with USCCB and Archdiocesan guidelines and/or writing and developing original curriculum.
- Planning and providing weekly communication and updates to the Pastor and the management team. Collaborating as a working member of the management team to support the Pastor; leading and guiding the parish staff and volunteers in the overall vision of the parish.
- Leading the evangelization team in the planning and monitoring of all program revenue and expenses to deliver results within financial goals in conjunction with the business operations department.
- Assures the effectiveness of evangelization efforts. Works to identify program gaps and implements new programs and ministries as necessary.
- Collaborates closely with the DCJM Parochial Vicars and Brothers who may be assigned as Chaplains or assistants to each program area to facilitate consistency with the overall vision of the parish.
- Recruits, supervises, trains, and maintains a fully formed and effective team of volunteers to support all programming.
- Collaborates with multiple teams inside and outside the evangelization team.
- Acts as a staff liaison with archdiocesan offices are required.
