Position Title: Camp BoveyCook

Status: Seasonal, up to 30 hours/week from June 24-July 27, 2024

Location: Camp Bovey Residential Summer Camp in Gordon, WI

Reports to: Camp Director

Position Summary:

Prepare wholesome daily meals and snacks from scratch for the camp community (up to 50 people) at Camp Bovey in Gordon, WI. Ensure they are served with timeliness and accordance to the pre-determined schedule. Practice proper food safety techniques and oversee the overall cleanliness of the kitchen. Model and contribute to a positive camp culture that fulfills the camp’s mission.

Major Job Responsibilities:

1. 65% - Follow menu plan to prepare daily meals/snacks

  • Place, receive and inventory food orders
  • Store food and leftovers at proper temperature; maintain temperature log records
  • Maintain all meal service records for campers and staff
  • Work with Camp Manager to supervise kitchen assistant
  • Willing to meet dietary requirements (vegan, lactose free, halal, allergies) of campers and staff

2. 20% - Maintain sanitation of the kitchen, dining area, and related equipment.

  • Wash dishes, serving and preparation equipment, and utensils according to regulated washing methods and temperatures.
  • Reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as indicated through the camp’s procedures.
  • Deep clean the appliances and cabinetry

3. 10% - Meal Planning

  • Work with the camp manager and other kitchen staff to review takeout requests for snacks or overnight camping trips to ensure adequate and accurate amounts and variety.
  • Prepare and store takeout food according to camp and health code procedures.
  • Utilize leftover food for meals and snacks when possible/applicable.
  • Advise staff on equipment or preparation materials needed for planned menu choices.

4. 5% - Be a positive presence at camp.

  • Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, and involvement and empowerment of youth.
  • Ensure campers are properly hydrated at all times.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines. Including Covid-19 health and safety protocols.

Benefits:

  • $22-$25/hr depending on qualifications, up to 30 hrs per week between June 24-July 27, 2024
  • Food provided when campers are in session

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a minimum of one total year of work experience
  • Kind, energetic, enthusiastic, and persistent
  • Interest in working around diverse youth

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with camp settings
  • Experience working with kids through babysitting, camp counselor positions, or others
  • Knowledge of food preparation and serving, storage of food and dishwashing procedures. Experience working in kitchens, dining, or restaurant settings.
  • WI ServeSafe or Food Handler’s license.
  • Current certification in first aid/CPR or willingness to obtain.

COVID Protocols

  • Due to the residential nature of the camp, we ask that all staff test for COVID at least once per week during the camper season. Tests will be provided.

Physical Aspects of the Position

  • Due to working in close kitchen quarters with other staff, the position must be able to wear a mask for extended periods of time.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds
  • Must be able to navigate rugged terrain at camp including stairs and sandy roads

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $18/hour, up to 30 hours per week between June 24-July 27
  • Food provided when campers are in session
