Habitat of the Charlotte Region is currently seeking applicants for a Closing Coordinator.  This will support pre and post-closing loan processing activities in connection to primary and secondary mortgage loan origination and down payment assistance funding for Homebuyer and Critical Home Repair closings. This position will also provide assistance with tasks and document preparation for other miscellaneous closing processes and with real estate listing activities in connection to Habitat’s Open Market Homes Program.

Job Description


Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):

  • Request or prepare documentation required to complete final analysis of loan applications including income and asset verifications, calculation of qualifying ratios, credit report updates, title exam, homeowner’s insurance, flood certifications, and signed loan disclosures
  • Prepare application submissions to third party lenders and down payment assistance providers
  • Communicate with borrowers, loan originators, vendors, and attorneys to ensure all parties are aware of loan status and any outstanding requirements to meet closing dates
  • Prepare initial and final loan disclosure documentation for review in accordance with federal and state laws and agency disclosure guidelines regarding residential mortgage loan origination
  • Satisfy external underwriting conditions
  • Assist with setup and activation of loans and escrow accounts in servicing database
  • Aid in customer service needs related to external property listings
  • Require minimal supervision
  • Habitat of the Charlotte Region-related tasks as requested by supervisor

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Education:

  • Mortgage or legal experience, preferred, or combination of related skills to successfully perform required duties
  • Notary Public (current or eligible) 
  • Experience working with ethnically and socio-economically diverse populations
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to work well with all types of people, communicating positively and respectfully when interacting with employees, homeowners, volunteers and the public
  • Excellent communication and customer service Skills
  • Excellent organizational skill and ability to manage multiple priorities with a high level of attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Must possess motivation, initiative, self-direction, and personal integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through with tasks and responsibilities
  • Consistent and reliable attendance
  • Adhere to schedules and deadlines
  • Represent Habitat in a positive manner to other staff, Homeowners and HIP, Community Partners, Volunteers, Habitat Partner Families, and others you come in contact with, ensuring teamwork, engagement and motivation of others
  • Willingly adhere to Habitat’s Code of Conduct Policy and any other policies set forth by the organization
  • Valid driver’s license with personal vehicle that will be used for business purposes and the ability to be insured by Habitat’s insurance provider
  • Ability to work with and through an interpreter as needed
  • Commitment to Habitat program

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. unassisted occasionally
  • Ability to work on a computer for up to 8 hours in a day
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to communicate in person, over phone and/or via computer
  • Ability work in office environment as needed which requires ability to speak, hear, with the visual and manual dexterity to manage papers, reports, and typing.  Must embody the capacity to maintain the following for several hours at a time: use of personal computer or similar technology, phone, sitting as required.

Level of Authority: 

  • Authorized to provide minimal required information to law firms, funding agencies and any other collaborating agencies working with Habitat for the sole purpose of conducting day to day business for the organization
  • Authorized to furnish information to homeowners or their designated representatives or any third-party persons or companies as authorized in writing by the homeowner
  • Authorized to furnish minimal required information to vendors, credit bureaus, financial institutions and other entities for the purpose of conducting day-to-day business

Estimated Time Commitment:   40 hours/week, including some evenings and weekends
