Status: Part-Time, 20 hours per week; Seasonal June 24-August 16, 2024

Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 10am-3pm

Starting Date: June 17, 2024

Broad Scope and Function of Job:

Assist with facilitating summer youth programs at East Side Neighborhood Services! As a youth worker, you will help build developmental assets of youth, provide students with a safe environment to learn and grow, help reduce summer learning loss and develop 21st Century skills. Must be able to relate with and provide outreach to all segments of a multi-cultural community including black, brown, and immigrant youth.

Seasonal opportunity with potential for longer term employment.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions:

Program Implementation (60%):

  • Assist with the daily operations of the program, such as facilitating academic and enrichment activities, practicing positive youth engagement, preparing healthy snacks, and supervising field trips.

  • Work with students to help develop leadership, self-esteem, character and identity, community service learning, and positive adult and peer relationships.

  • Provide on-going supervision of youth in one’s care, including addressing behavior concerns and reinforcing positive participation.

Family and Community (20%):

  • Greet families and assist with transitions to and from program time.

  • Supervise youth while in the community.

  • Assists with family nights and other events designed to showcase program highlights.

Administrative Duties (15%):

  • Prepare and maintain records of work with individuals and groups, including daily attendance.

  • Assist with program evaluation, including capturing daily reflections and collecting data.

  • Document progress of program participants including academic and social goals.

Other (5%):

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager.

Qualifications

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or two years of experience working with youth. Two or more years of college or post-secondary education in Child Development, Human Services, Education, or related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish strongly preferred.

  • Valid MN driver’s license and access to a vehicle strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with youth and parents.

  • Experience in tutoring youth with an emphasis on reading, STEM and social emotional learning.

  • Experience running a group, understanding group dynamics and how to increase youth engagement.

Compensation: $16-$18 per hour depending on qualifications
