Are you ready to help Midwest Transplant Network (MTN), the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) serving a population of 5.5 million in Kansas and Missouri, achieve our mission of saving lives by joining our team? MTN is actively seeking an individual to assume the position of PRN Donation Services Coordinator. This is a per diem position based out of the Westwood, KS office. The PRN Donation Services Coordinator is responsible for maintaining communication between Midwest Transplant Network, hospitals, outside agencies, professional colleagues, and the general public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Working knowledge of Federal and state (Missouri and Kansas) laws related to authorization. Medical terminology and disease processes knowledge allowing the ability to rapidly, accurately and professionally obtain and provide clinical information during referrals.
  2. Knowledge of and ability to apply department policies and procedures accurately and consistently.
  3. Accurately calculate hemodilution to assess donor suitability.
  4. Knowledge of organization and department structures, and services provided by MTN to relay information correctly and effectively route calls as necessary.
  5. Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize during stressful situations.
  6. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all departments within MTN.
  7. Display the ability to communicate effectively and convey sensitive information with outside resources, referring or other procurement agencies.
  8. Appropriately and effectively communicate case status with Donation Services staff during shift change/transition.
  9. Follow all protocols for accurate database entries, completion of paperwork and case dispatch.
  10. Accurately provide quality checks to own work and work of other employees and communicate errors/improvement needs sensitively and professionally.
  11. Appropriately identify issues requiring management involvement.
  12. Sensitively and accurately obtain tissue authorization and medical social histories from donor families.
  13. Rapidly develop trust and rapport with donor families using sensitivity and diplomacy.
Qualifications & Behavioral Competencies

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Associate degree in biological sciences or allied health degree and/or two or more years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. LPN or EMT-P strongly preferred.
  2. Ability to work a minimum of 24 hours per month. May be required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.
  3. Ability to efficiently and effectively maneuver through Microsoft office systems and use a telephony system.
  4. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy. Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.
  5. Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; good problem-solving and creative thinking skills and well-developed personal stress management skills.
  6. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  7. Possess manual dexterity sufficient to operate telephones, and computers.
  8. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information to donor families, hospital staff and transplant/procurement personnel by phone.
  9. Ability to hear at normal audio levels of speaking whether in person or over the phone.
  10. Vision correctable to 20/40 to read patient charts.
  11. OSHA Category III – No exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.
  12. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
