Description

Camp Royall Counselors play a vital role in creating a fun and safe environment for children and adults with autism to learn and grow. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of campers while gaining valuable experience.

We provide intensive training about autism and your role as counselor. Counselors assist campers in all aspects of self-care, including dressing, bathing, eating, grooming, toileting and other areas of daily living.

  • Summer 2024 runs May 21st, 2024 through August 9th, 2024 (see schedule below).  Both Residential and Day Counselor positions are available. 
  • Year-Round we are also seeking weekend Residential and Day Counselors.  We also have a few weeklong programs from September to April as well.  

 

 

Summer 2024 schedule:

  • Staff Training- May 21st-May 30th
  • First Half Summer (4 weeks)- June 6th-June 28th
  • Vacation Week- June 30th- July 5th
  • Second Half Summer (5 weeks)- July 7th- August 9th
  • End of Summer Celebration- August 10th

Qualifications

Residential Counselors

  • must be 18 by the first day of camp
  • live onsite
  • are paid a weekly rate and provided with room and board for weeklong programs.  Weekend Mini Camp is paid an hourly wage.
  • may also rotate work as Night Duty Counselors during the program. This is in place of a daytime shift.
  • (Summer Only) are eligible for incentive pay based on experience, education, certifications and commitment

Day Counselors:

  • must be 17 by the first day of work
  • commute to camp daily
  • are paid hourly

All Camp Royall staff:

  • Demonstrate a desire and ability to learn about autism and approaches for managing the challenges associated with it.
  • Be accepting and respectful of those who think, behave, and interact differently.
  • Be patient, energetic, fun-loving, and hard-working.  A sense of humor doesn't hurt!
  • Be willing to put the needs of others before your own.
  • Be flexible while maintaining open and effective communication.
  • Be physically able and willing to maintain constant supervision of campers and to fulfill all responsibilities fully.
