Position Summary:
A Research Associate is responsible for development of cell culture protocols for new recombinant protein products. This includes screening clones and testing growth conditions and media formulations in bioreactors and other culture formats, in small to medium scale. It may also include cooperation with the molecular biology group in creation of new clones, creation and characterization of new cell lines, and screening studies in search for novel protein product targets. This position will work with stable cell line expression systems as well as transient expression platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow and maintain cultures for the purpose of recombinant protein expression and miscellaneous experiments
  • Plan and conduct experiments with the purpose of improving recombinant protein yields, quality, and process efficiency
  • Analyze expression levels using techniques such as gel electrophoresis, immunoassays, bioassays, quantitative RT-PCR, RNA-Seq, and other applicable techniques
  • Collaborate with molecular biology group on creation of clones, constructs, and cell lines
  • Perform data entry and analysis, prepare reports. Share data at meetings with fellow employees
  • Share basic lab duties by preparing stock solutions, buffers, and media, as well as general lab/instrument cleaning and maintenance
  • Share occasional weekend responsibilities when needed
  • Perform additional lab duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in microbiology, biology, biochemistry, bioprocess engineering, chemistry, or an equivalent, with 0-2 years of experience 
  • Experience conducting cell culture with aseptic technique is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of common techniques such as SDS-PAGE, immunoassays (Western Blot, ELISA, etc.), nucleic acid manipulation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • General computer/data entry skills; basic coding skills are encouraged, but not required
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently 
  • Oral/written communication skills 
  • Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot, and perform well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Preferred experience with lab automation technology, multi-parallel bioreactor systems, high-throughput methods
  • Preferred experience with design of experiment software, computational integration of cell culture processes
