Summary: 

Human Options seeks a detail-oriented person with excellent organizational and analytical skills to be a part of the administrative staff.  The Senior Accountant will be responsible for performing accounting functions essential to the operation of the organization in accordance with Human Options’ standard procedures and GAAP.  The Senior Accountant will maintain and analyze accounting records, prepare accounting schedules, reports, and financial statements, ensure compliance with accounting principles and organization’s policies, procedures, grants, and contracts.  The position reports to the Director of Finance. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the Staff Accountant and oversee general accounting including accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, and general ledger functions. 

  • Collaborate with numerous departments to ensure accuracy of accounting entries. 

  • Execute internal and external audits and monitorings. 

  • Monitor, maintain and forecast cash flow.   

  • Prepare monthly journal entries.  

  • Reconcile all bank accounts monthly. 

  • Prepare budgets for all grant applications including government and foundation. 

  • Prepare accurate monthly invoices for government grants including required supporting documentation. 

  • Support grant administration, tracking and compliance. 

  • Support development of annual operating plan/budgets and prepare and analyze monthly departmental performance reports. 

  • Ensure 1099 work is tracked in the accounting system and produce annual 1099 forms. 

  • Prepare agenda, minutes and attend the Finance and Audit Committee Meetings. 

  • Update Finance Manual, Policies and Procedures as required. 

  • Ensure quality assurance of accounting files and vendor databases. 

  • Lead finance related projects, such as online time & labor tracking, fund raising to accounting interfaces, paperless system implementation, and cost allocation projects.   

  • Abide by professional confidentiality guidelines by only sharing client information within the organization when it meets the needs of the client.

  • Work with executive leadership to ensure compliance with federal regulations. 

  • Ad hoc projects as requested. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, related field or commensurate work experience. 

  • CPA or a master's degree is a plus. 

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, particularly for non-profits. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience in Financial Edge preferred.  

  • Ability to multi-task with interruptions, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. 

  • Clear and direct communication. 

  • Attention to detail.
