This position conducts research for the TC Lab and will generate detailed scientific research data and reports. The position requires an in depth understanding of research experiments and statistics and an understanding of plant growth and development. This position reports to the Clean Stock and Research Manager and works closely with other lab managers and employees.  May work with other departments in the nursery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

  1. Explores current methods in the literature and proposes research or adapted research outcomes to improve quality on plant tissue culture.
  2. Performs proposed scientific research on plant tissue culture (plant media, light, temperature, plant development, plant tissue, and other factors).
  3. Ensures accurate and appropriate data collection to improve quality.
  4. Operates laboratory equipment for tests, research and scientific experiments.
  5. Participates in scientific discussions in plant tissue culture.
  6. Presents written and/or oral progress reports on a regular basis to managers and other lab staff.
  7. May demonstrate and explain research results to other employees.
  8. Keeps detailed accounts of all activities and observations.
  9. Maintains and organizes the research area including data, media and all equipment.
  10. Maintains the cleanliness and safety of the lab according to established safety procedures and standards.
  11. Cross trains with other positions in the lab.
  12. Keeps the Clean Stock and Research Manager apprised of relevant issues and problems that may arise in a timely manner.
  13. Ensures the safe keeping of proprietary varieties and confidential information.
  14. Assures the highest level of confidentiality on sensitive matters concerning the nursery.
  15. Other duties as assigned.





  1. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a life science (B.S.) discipline (Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences) or equivalent combination of experience and education. 
  2. Requires 2+ years’ experience working in a plant tissue culture lab, preferably working with blueberries or similar horticultural crop
  3. Requires experience following laboratory procedures and protocols and performing data analysis. Must have the ability to analyze, interpret and present results and experimental data.
  4. Requires a high attention to detail and the ability to observe small deviations.
  5. Ability to collaborate with other team members, develop strong relationships, and maintain a positive attitude.
  6. Must be able to read and follow detailed instructions, directions, recipes and protocols in English.

  8. Requires the ability to be self-directed, motivated and capable of prioritizing daily work according to a schedule.

  1. A Master’s degree in a biological science, math, or statistics.
  2. Experience working in a molecular biology laboratory setting.
  3. Experience in microbiology and plant pathology.
  4. Experience using statistical tools. (R, SAS, or equivalent)
  5. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
