Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is tasked with processing and maintaining the financial records of Strong City Baltimore, including but not limited to general ledger entries and reconciliations, cash receipts and expenditure journals, and monthly accounting schedules.  The incumbent works collaboratively with the Accounting Manager and other finance department staff, to conduct the monthly close of the financial statements.  This role collaborates with the Finance Team, Portfolio Managers, and Senior Directors, to make sound decisions and plans for the fiscal health of the organization.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Generate journal vouchers for entry related to revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities in Abila MIP, including monthly expense accruals
  • Assist with month-end closing (payroll allocations, prepaids, other schedules, etc.)
  • Assist with annual audit and year-end closing (workpapers and account reconciliations)
  • Manage monthly full-cycle accounts receivable, to include invoicing, recording cash receipts, and weekly collection efforts
  • Assist in preparing, researching, coding, and processing of bank deposits
  • Document Standard Operating Procedures for assigned tasks, facilitate training, and maintain financial records and files
  • Participate in finance department staff meetings and attend other company meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel, as well as proficiency with a large Enterprise Accounting system; MIP experience highly preferred
  • Strong analytical skills; demonstrated detailed focus in work and ability
  • Excellent communication proficiency, including excellent verbal and written skills
  • Well organized, able to handle multiple tasks; meet deadlines and work as a team player
