Public Programming Associate

The Public Programming Associate is vital to MOCA in its efforts to deliver world-class public programs to the museum’s audience. Public programs will include but are not limited to lectures, symposia, and convenings; screenings, readings, and festivals; workshops and residencies; and curricular partnerships. 

Reporting to the Chief of Public Engagement, Learning & Impact, the Public Programming Associate will provide conceptual, administrative, and logistical support for all public programs at MOCA. Interpretative public programming will both build on exhibitions and feature original programming initiatives in pursuit of the museum’s mission to promote artistic innovation, original scholarship, and community investment across the museum’s two physical locations, in the digital sphere, and offsite for special projects. 

Working closely with the CPELI as well as with departments across the museum, the Public Programming Associate needs to be able to work collaboratively to deliver multiple projects in different formats and on short timelines. They will possess the ability to oversee seamless and polished events and will have a creative and flexible approach to all projects. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to coordinating the administration and logistics of all public programs such as drafting and distributing agreements; arranging travel; ensuring that all programs are listed correctly on promotional materials; and coordinating AV, security, VE, and documentation of all events. 

In addition to supporting the CPELI in the realization of public programs across the museum, the Public Programming Associate will put forward ideas and participate in conceptual discussions around the development of public programming within the museum and how this programming furthers MOCA’s mission to support and celebrate diverse artists and communities. The Public Programming Associate is a public facing position and will need to have the ability to interact closely with visiting artists and scholars, as well as the public, all with the goal of making regular public programs sustainable and as accessible as possible to our audiences. 

Essential Functions: 

• Oversee logistical and administrative duties for all public programming across the museum. Includes drafting and sharing agreements; coordinating travel and accommodation; and collecting promotional materials. 
• Ensure that all departments are aware of the needs of each program. Coordinate as needed with Production, AV, Operations, Security and Visitor Engagement to ensure that all programs are staffed appropriately. 
• Draft all program copy for MOCA web and social media channels. 
• Process programming related invoices and payments. Track all program expenses. 
• Facilitate the rental or purchase of supplies and equipment as needed. 
• Be principal MOCA staff-member onsite for all public programs including as needed during prep, sound check etc. 
• Be available nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled and assigned. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of contemporary art, culture and performance
• Excellent organization and proven ability to work collaboratively with a small team
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A developed sense of timeliness and planning
• Ability to work weekends and evenings is required
• Possession of a Bachelors degree in studio art, arts administration, socialor art history; Masters degree or other specialized training preferred.

Hourly Rate: $28.21

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do thefollowing: sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions;climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision,color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspectwork. Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment is required. Heavyusage of computers and phones required.
