This position is responsible for establishing and implementing Fall Creek’s molecular biology, pathology and genomics programs. This is a hands-on foundational applied research position that will be part of a team enhancing Fall Creek’s molecular capabilities in the U.S. Key to this position is the translation of research findings into improvements in global plant production and breeding.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

  1. Lead all DNA based testing for the Breeding and Production departments globally. This includes but is not limited to the development and implementation of new pathogen testing techniques, development of marker assisted selection capabilities and the ability to interface with third party technology providers on a routine basis.
  2. Coordinate with Breeding and Production to ensure all company traceability and clean-plant system goals are achieved.
  3. Responsible for the development and application of genomic and other laboratory technologies and methodologies to assist in the breeding process.
  4. Lead physiological and molecular trait dissection and subsequent translation of findings into breeding applications in collaboration with the global Variety Development team.
  5. Responsible for translating results to the appropriate breeding programs to enhance the understanding of Fall Creek’s germplasm base as well as the performance of advanced breeding material.  
  6. Lab management including all routine maintenance of equipment, acquisition of supplies, and implementation of safety procedures and standards
  7. Assures the highest level of confidentiality on sensitive matters concerning the nursery. 
  8. Supports, perpetuates, and enhances Fall Creek’s core values and corporate the nursery. 
  9. Other duties as assigned.





  1. Typically requires a PhD in plant breeding, plant genetics, molecular biology or related discipline with research specializing in the associated fields; or a Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience in molecular genetics, plant breeding, or horticultural research experience.
  2. Requires familiarity and experience with state-of-the-art DNA based technologies and their application in molecular biology/pathology, genetics, and genomics.
  3. Must possess sound knowledge of plant biology and pathology.
  4. Experience with perennial or woody crops, preferably in fruits.
  5. Experience with laboratory practices.
  6. Demonstrated project and data management skills.
  7. Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with other scientists, breeders, and professionals in the industry in achieving goals.
  8. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively present information in formal and informal settings to peers, customers and industry leaders.
  9. Requires the ability to be self-directed, motivated and capable of prioritizing daily work according to a schedule.
  10. Solid knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  11. Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work well with people from different countries and with varying English language skills.
  12. Must demonstrate professional and ethical business practices, adherence to company values, and a commitment to personal and professional development.
