SUMMARY: Recommend, interpret, evaluate, and use information resources to help students, faculty, staff, or alumni in person at the library and remotely. Support the Reference and Instruction Librarian with creating guides and tutorials for information and research literacy instruction.

 

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provides general and virtual reference information, research, and services to the Logan community.
  • Assists with Collection Development including reading, reference, and research materials through the selection of books, e-resources, materials, and equipment.
  • Assists with preparation of monthly and annual statistical reports.
  • Promotes scholarship through library services, and develops and compiles the LRC newsletter: In-Touch.
  • Maintains list/guide of Logan faculty and staff scholarship.
  • Assists with data collection and analysis for assessment and outcomes.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the LRC Web site, guides, and tutorials.
  • Assists with online learning instruction such as development of guides and tutorials.
  • Circulate library materials by checking materials in and out using Sierra online catalog.
  • Provide photocopies or electronic copies as requested by alumni, field doctors and interlibrary loan services.
  • Engages in planning, promotion, and delivery of library resources, services, and activities, together with other librarians.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirement of a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA - accredited institution and two years' related experience. Knowledge and experience with information technology systems, web development, and current and emerging library trends and technologies; experience in and commitment to public services; Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals . Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Ability to complete basic computational math. Ability to demonstrate data using different methods or graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

 

Computer Skills: Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have computer experience, Microsoft Office Suite competency, and LibGuide proficiency. Working familiarity with office and media equipment and technology preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to type on a computer and to handle books, and to talk and hear when assisting students and other library patrons. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms while shelving books and checking them out. The employee is occasionally required to sit and use a computer, and to climb, balance, and stoop or kneel to shelve books. The employee must frequently lift books weighing from 10 to 30 pounds and occasionally lift books weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to push carts weighing up to 100 lbs. Close vision is needed to use a computer and to read shelves . Color vision is required when using research information databases in order to distinguish different screens. Must have distance vision and depth perception for safety purposes when pushing carts full of books.
