Friends' Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 819 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood.

Upper School Spanish & French Teacher

The Friends Central Upper School (grades 9-12) seeks a dedicated, enthusiastic teacher of Spanish & French for a full-time position beginning on July 1, 2023. Qualified candidates will have experience teaching Spanish and French, a bachelor's degree in a related field, and a demonstrated commitment to working with Upper School students.

 

In addition to having a professional and educational background in teaching languages, we seek someone who will:

  • Be an enthusiastic teacher and supportive guide for Upper School-aged students

  • Continue to develop and coordinate our world language curricula with other faculty

  • Stay current with best practices in teaching and the teaching of languages, including incorporating technology and differentiating instruction

  • Determine learning goals and design coherent instruction and assessment accordingly

  • Have the mindset and ability to work in partnership with parents

  • Possess excellent communication skills, including through writing

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills

  • Enhance the Schools commitment to diversity and inclusivity as outlined in our Diversity Statement

  • Understand and be committed to the Schools Quaker values and mission

  • Be an engaged member of the Friends Central faculty and wider community

 

This position will also involve being an advisor, so candidates are asked to share any relevant experience in those areas. Upper School faculty are also expected to perform supervisory duties (study hall, lunch, etc.), supervise a club, support student affinity groups, and assist with other programmatic activities that are part of the school day. Candidates who can also coach a sport are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish

  • Proficiency in French to an Intermediate level

  • Bachelors degree in Spanish, French or related field

  • 3-5 years Spanish teaching experience

  • Ability to teach all Upper School levels of Spanish, from Spanish 1 through Spanish Literature

  • Ability to teach Upper School beginner levels of French: French 1 and French 2
