Role Summary:
The Health and Safety Specialist will develop, implement, and lead all company safety programs, including process and operational safety, OSHA programs, and ongoing regulatory compliance as it relates to Health and Safety.
Scope of the Position:
The Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for leading the safety program at the three North Alabama and Westmoreland, TN locations. The office will be located at the Huntsville location. This position requires <40% travel to job sites.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities expected of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop, implement and lead all company safety programs and training
- Create a positive safety culture and engage employees to support safety standards
- Develop and implement ongoing safety improvements and proactive processes, systems and tools that optimizes safe performance and ensures regulatory compliance
- Establish and lead site safety committees
- Record and track all incidents of injury, work related illness, and damage to property; provide trend analysis to management
- Develop and oversee incident investigation process
- Review all post-accident investigations and near misses for process and procedural improvements and follow-up with management
- Partner with managers to identify safety issues and topics to be addressed
- Support managers in the preparation and delivery of Safety Talks
- Conduct site safety audits and inspections and identify hazards in the workplace
- Advise managers and employees on the proper use of safety equipment and appropriate safety rules
- Develop and maintain job hazard analysis
- Maintain OSHA documentation
- Manage Worker’s Compensation process to include case management
- Maintain current knowledge of Safety regulations and laws, accident prevention, hazards and other related topics
- Administer site contractor safety training; track and maintain contractor insurance certificates.
- Ensure trained first responders are on all shifts and locations
- Establish and coordinate company safety recognition program
- Lead continuous improvement efforts in safety

Position Qualifications:
- Excellent skills for coaching and assisting team members
- Computer skills including MS Office
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to implement new processes and motivate others
- First Aid, CPR certification preferred
- Ability to travel
- Flexibility to cover multiple shifts
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, Industrial Health & Safety, preferred
- Minimum of five years of experience as a Safety professional in a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of worker’s compensation program
