POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Guttman Renewables (GR) is the newest initiative of Guttman Energy and supports a cross section of companies with developing and implementing carbon offset programs on their journey to net-zero carbon emissions. As companies contemplate their long term decarbonization strategies and begin engaging in voluntary carbon markets as part of their environmental social governance (ESG) programs, GR is seeking an experienced carbon offset market expert, preferably with project development experience, to join the team as one of the leaders of an emerging consulting practice.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Identify customers with carbon offset requirements or desires.
  • Lead the delivery of services for carbon offset including creating new deliverables, processes, systems, and presentations.
  • Participate in group strategy and leadership meetings to define and forecast market size and trends to support positioning of services and associated growth strategies.
  • Serve as primary Guttman Renewables interface with industry groups such as SBTi Net-Zero Standard, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Taskforce for Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets, CDP, and World Resources Institute (WRI).
  • Closely monitor carbon markets, carbon exchanges to identify carbon offset optimization opportunities.
  • Utilize a basket of exchanges and relationships to create a portfolio of carbons offsets that provide margin enhancement to the offsets that are sold.
  • Create models that forecast future carbon pricing based on different scenarios across the global marketplace.
  • Support business development managers and sales leaders on client calls to demonstrate deep subject matter expertise on certification standards, offset methodologies, industry trends and NGO guidance, technical aspects of project design and development, and risks.
  • Gather and monitor intelligence and industry trends in voluntary carbon markets and report to leadership team on recurring basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in carbon offset project development, NGO carbon offset program management, or climate change/sustainability consulting.
  • Adaptability and resiliency able to operate in dynamic and rapidly changing environment with shifting strategic priorities.
  • Deep understanding of voluntary carbon markets including certification methodologies, avoidance/prevention vs. removal, project development financial fundamentals, and anticipated market evolution.
  • Ability to handle details of customer activity and related market programs.
  • Experience creating new consulting services frameworks.
  • Ability to listen to others, express ideas both orally and in writing and provide relevant and timely information to clients, managers, etc.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make timely, practical business decisions.
  • Strong analytical aptitude and attention to detail. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to analyze financial statements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
