Help DWC provide comprehensive, trauma informed mental health care to homeless and extremely low-income women. As DWC’s psychologist you will provide direct testing and therapeutic services to individuals enrolled in the Trauma Recovery Center Program. The Trauma Recovery Center is supported by the California Victim Compensation Board. The Trauma Recovery Center is a partnership with Peace Over Violence. This positon works with a multidisciplinary staff, including a psychiatrist, social workers, medical staff, and case managers to provide trauma-focused, evidence based mental health treatment to survivors of crime. This position will average 4 hrs/week as needed and be a part of the Clinical Department reporting to the Sr. Director of Clinical Programs.

Essential Functions

  1. Interview patients, give diagnostic tests, and provide individual, family, or group psychotherapy, as needed
  2. Diagnose disorders, including nature and extent, and work with an interdisciplinary team to determine the appropriate course of treatment for patients
  3. Provide case consultation and collaborate with outside primary care providers to establish treatment plan to meet patient’s needs
  4. Conduct assessments and evaluations as it pertains to SSI and SSDI applications (i.e. Form 1002 “Evaluation of Mental Disorders”)
  5. Conduct assessments and screening utilizing these tools: World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment (WHOQOL-BREF); Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Checklist – Civilian (PCL-C); Child Behavior Checklist, 1.5 years – 5 years & 6 years – 18 years (CBCL); and, Youth Self Report, 11 years – 18 years (YSR)
  6. Maintain accurate and timely records of interventions and services provided to patients
  7. Comply with local, state, and federal confidentiality laws and regulations
  8. Provide clinical trainings to DWC Staff as needed
  9. Provide services in a manner consistent with the DWC mission of fostering dignity and respect

Work Environment
This job operates in a Drop In Day Center setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 

This is a [part time] position. Days and hours of work are negotiable.

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience 

  • Registered Psychologist, PhD Psychologist, or EdD (Doctor of Educational Psychology)
  • Qualifications to be insured; organization will provide malpractice insurance
  • Familiarity and comfort working with issues related to homelessness, substance abuse, mental health diagnosis, and history of trauma
  • Experience working with Evidenced Based Practices (i.e. Trauma Informed Care, Seeking Safety)
  • Clinical Supervisor Experience preferred
  • Experience working in a community mental health setting preferred
  • Experience working with issues of trauma preferred


Required Knowledge/Skills/Position Qualifications

  • Personable and able to develop relationships with staff and participants
  • Excellent active listening and crisis intervention skills with ability to exercise and model good judgment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Oral and written fluency in English; Spanish a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Must be a CA resident and live at least 75 miles from the office and must be available for in-person meetings at the DWC offices.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative COVID-19 test result from the last seven days, on first day of hire.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative TB test result within the last twelve months, on first day of hire.
  • You will be required to have received at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination to start employment with DWC, and second dose must be received within 30 days from the first day of hire.
