Summary/Objective

The CDC Teacher position is responsible for providing high quality programming and specialized learning experiences to students in the child development center programs which serve homeless and low-income children between birth and five years of age. The Teacher should provide services in a supportive and positive classroom climate that develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the Curriculum Standards.

Essential Functions

  • Create and implement developmentally appropriate activities children.

  • Create a positive home-classroom connection by maintaining appropriate ongoing communication with parents of children.

  • Communicate regularly with parents to nurture a supportive and cooperative relationship between home and school.

  • Keep accurate records on children as required by program:  lesson plans, assessment, NAEYC documentation, attendance, USDA, etc. 

  • Maintain classroom discipline using behavioral management techniques: positive reinforcement, praise, encouragement and redirection.         

  • Organize classroom and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment: both indoors and outdoors.

  • Provide constant supervision of all children during all activities      

  • Assist with development of instructional classroom materials.

  • Plan personal professional growth and knowledge of current developments within the field.

  • Attend required meetings and in-service training.

  • Protect confidentiality of records and information for students.

  • Report to administration when knowledgeable or suspicious that a child’s health or welfare has been or appears to be at risk as a result of abuse or neglect.

  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the program and the agency, as directed by the Director of YWCA Child Care, COO or CEO of the YWCA.

  • Adhere to the policies of the YWCA.

Work Environment

This job operates in a learning environment.  This position requires a person who can work with many distractions, interruptions and still accomplish their objectives and meet established deadlines. The Teacher must be able to implement activities, while maintaining program safety. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers and other equipment necessary for classroom adornment.

Physical Demands

This is a physically active role that would require the ability to lift at least 35 pounds; participate on the floor with children and move swiftly without limitation.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, shifts are between the hours of 6:30 am – 6:00 pm. Some flexibility in hours is required based on program needs, but the employee must work 40 hours each week to maintain full time status and at least 30 hours each week to maintain health benefits.

Travel

This role may be required to attend field trips as well as occasionally drive to training and professional development.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Certificate with Child Development Association, Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree.

  2. 1-2 years of teaching or training experience preferred.

  3. Background Check is required.
