PURPOSE

Contribute to the overall success of Matrix Design and our customers by contributing to the success of the Controls Engineering Team for the timely completion of all assigned projects and responsibilities.

OVERVIEW

The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for working collaboratively with and contributing technical expertise to the Controls Engineering Team and the larger Operations Department for the successful buildout, testing, installation, and startup of automation systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Contribute to the Success of the Controls Engineering Team
    • Exemplify Matrix’s Core Values and encourage others to do the same
    • Work closely with the Controls Engineering Manager to strengthen and empower your fellow team members and improve project quality
    • Manage concurrent projects and tasks in an effective and efficient manner
  2. Contribute to the Success of Project Teams
    • Serve as Controls Engineering lead
    • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure the timely success of every system.
    • Collaborate inter-departmentally to ensure the timely success of every system.
    • Work with the installation team in the field to ensure the successful startup of new systems.
    • Work with the Service Manager to coordinate Controls Engineering support in the field.
    • Willing and able to travel up to 40%
  3. Provide Technical Expertise to the Controls Engineering Team
    • Write PLC/HMI programs from templates and scratch to Matrix and customer specifications, including safety logic and validation of safety functionality
    • Configure network devices using protocols such as DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet IP, and Ethernet IP (safe)
    • Perform startup, testing, and debugging of hardware
    • Interface and integrate Matrix controls with the controls of the manufacturer’s equipment, cameras, and FANUC robots
  4. Seek Innovative Ways to Improve the Matrix Way
    • Provide input to Matrix management regarding ways to improve existing products or processes.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY

  • Programming Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Keyence PLC’s and HMI’s
  • Read and understand electrical schematics
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Robotic programming is preferred but not required
  • Debug automation equipment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR two-year college or technical school equivalent
  • 5+ Years Controls Experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to work in both an office and manufacturing floor environment
  • Regularly required to sit, reach, grasp, stand, and move from one area to another
  • Regularly required to work in constricted parts of machine cells
  • Constant and repeated use of keyboard and mouse
  • Required to push, pull, bend, lift, and move up to 50lbs
