Position Overview:

The Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing integrated marketing strategy and implementing tactical marketing and customer communication plans for Nebraska Book Company's specified businesses. This is an exempt, non-supervisory position, reporting directly to the Marketing Manager


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Developing marketing strategy and tactical communication plans for NBC businesses and partnering closely with business leadership to meet marketing-related business goals
  • Working with sales and product specialists to develop and effectively launch marketing campaigns and sales enablement tools and materials
  • Producing and managing customer communication calendar to ensure deadlines are met
  • Regularly developing and testing creatives, content and messaging, email subject lines, segmenting approaches, etc. to improve program performance and apply learnings to future campaigns
  • Using email platform Pardot to create customer emails and track analytics
  • Performing regular analysis to measure program/campaign performance and identify opportunities to improve engagement
  • Facilitating and aligning communication within the Marketing team to ensure schedules are balanced and timelines are met
  • Assisting in the development of marketing campaigns and promotions consistent with target audience and the brand
  • Maintaining data integrity of the marketing databases
  • Reviewing and editing marketing and sales materials
  • Maintaining, tracking, and updating estimates, due dates, and billing/invoice information from outside agencies and vendors necessary to successfully implement campaigns and promotions in an accurate, timely, and cost-effective manner
  • Helping coordinate and plan events including annual user conference and trade show logistics
  • Complying with all company personnel policies and practices as well as all federal, state, and local standards/requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to complete campaigns and projects
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and an ability to handle multiple assignments while operating under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Self-starter, ambitious, motivated marketer and writer who wants to make a large contribution in a fast-paced business 
  • Strong written/copy writing skills
  • Critical skills in creative execution, production management and process improvement
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas and viewpoints to business partners



  • Required: 4-year college degree
    • Concentration in advertising, marketing, or related discipline is preferred
  • Required: 2-4 years of general marketing experience
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud/Pardot or other marketing automation systems preferred
  • Experience in graphic design and proficient with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Experience in education, publishing, or retail industry a plus but not require

Remote work:

  • Some travel may be required for events and quarterly company meetings
    • Up to 15%
  • Employee is expected to be available during regular business hours, Monday-Friday
