JOB SUMMARY - Performs various duties in the recruitment, review, & selection of student applicants for college admission.

CLASSIFICATION - This position is classified as full-time, regular, exempt position


  • Attend college day/night programs in assigned areas;
  • Attend high school visits and meetings with prospective students in assigned areas;
  • Conduct admissions interviews and provides information sessions with prospective students, guidance counselors, and other prospective student secondary sources;
  • Provide thorough and in-depth campus tours to prospective students when student guides are unavailable;
  • Contact and direct prospective students through the enrollment process, providing knowledge about academic programs, student life, financial aid, athletics, history of the university, top competitors, and job trends;
  • Provide strategies for recruitment, recruitment materials, and recruitment functions to the Dean of Admissions;
  • Work scheduled visitation days and Saturdays as needed;

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Perform other functions and duties as requested by the Dean of Admissions, such as, but not limited to:

  • Attend appropriate conferences, conventions, or meetings’
  • Fill in for other counselors in the office when necessary;
  • Work nights as scheduled in order boost call volume and responses;


  1. High School Diploma Required (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
  2. 1 year experience in an office environment (sales preferred)
  3. Ability to compile and maintain data and files
  4. Strong interpersonal skills (particularly oral) and phone skills
  5. Ability to make formal presentations in a public forum
  6. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  7. Ability to work unsupervised

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The Admissions Counselor must possess specific areas of knowledge, skill, and ability to be able to explain and/or demonstrate he/she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities.  Furthermore, he/she must conduct such activities in light of the mission and purpose of Chowan University.
