THE POSITION:

This position is responsible for providing customer service in all areas of helping client families achieve peace following the loss of a loved one. He/she strives to help families through this difficult time by providing exemplary personalized service. The Funeral Director implements choices made by the families regarding the funeral, final disposition of the body and memorialization of the individual.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Arrange and conduct funeral and memorial ceremonies in a professional, organized, and caring manner and in keeping with company policies and procedures.  

  • Retain heritage and grow market share through active involvement with community, religious and other organizations. 

  • Supervise and care for the deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks. These tasks may include knowledge of embalming, cosmetology, hairstyling, dressing and casketing. The funeral director is responsible for coordinating and assisting with funeral service, and visitation, delivery of flowers, caskets, urn, photos and other personal keepsakes or mementos of client families.  

  • Prepare and obtain any documents related to services, cremations, maintenance, etc. 

  • Experience and knowledge of office duties such as, computer skills, multiline phone system, debit card machine and daily office logistics. Answering phones and customer service skills are required.  

  • Drive Funeral Home vehicles for services and transportation of families for service. 

  • Any other relevant duties as required by supervisor.

  • Must have a flexible schedule depending on a family’s needs.  

  • Must be able to fulfill “On Call “hours.  

 

Finalists will be screened for Criminal Background, Credit Report, Education and Employment Verification, and Motor Vehicle Records.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

  • High School diploma or equivalent, or related experience. 

  • Minimum 1-year experience working as a Funeral Director. 

 

 

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Have a positive and supportive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings, and her work. 

  • Refrain from public promotion or approval of any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals. 

  • Must hold current valid Colorado driver’s license to perform duties, drive a car(s) hearse or limousine. 

  • Previous customer service and/or sales experience helpful. 

  • Above average communication skills, both written and verbal and always show compassion and empathy to all those they serve in the execution of their job duties. 

  • Must possess a high level of professionalism, and integrity. 

  • Must possess problem solving skills. 

  • Must have the ability to multi-task and set priorities as appropriate. 

  • Must be detail oriented and perform duties in a timely and accurate manner. 

  • Must be a team player. 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing more than 50 lbs. without the assistance of mobile, powered equipment or co-workers. 

  • Hearing adequate to facilitate carrying out telephonic conversations with customers. 

  • Manual dexterity with good/hand eye coordination enabling the ability to operate a computer and mouse, copier, printer, and telephone. 

  • Daily, the work involves intermediate periods of non-interrupted mental/sensory concentration (usually more than one (1) hour at a time, occasionally for several hours. 

  • Some of these duties may involve work done on weekends, evening, nighttime, and holidays.  At times, some duties may require work outside in the cold weather or hot weather.
