POSITION SUMMARY

This position will assist the Guide Manager with general management responsibilities for the Guides and assist with hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and policy administration. The Guide Supervisor may also be responsible for the overall management of certain designated groups such as the Grand Canyon Guides, Enchantment Guides, and Site Hosts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Guide Manager with recruiting, hiring, and training the best Guides in Sedona.
  • Assist Guide Manager in developing guide training materials and conduct new guide training to ensure sufficient knowledge of trails, driving skills, flora/fauna, Sedona history, Pink Jeep history, CPR training, and interpretive guiding techniques.
  • Participates in tour ride-alongs and conducts performance evaluations for new hires and other Guides for regular performance feedback. Conducts follow up coaching and training as necessary
  • Develop effective communication with Guides (from memo creation to Guide meeting participation).
  • Assist with managing daily activities of Guide staff to achieve optimum efficiency, responsive service levels, and high productivity while ensuring a memorable tour for our customers.
  • Handle personnel issues as appropriate within Pink Jeep’s guidelines to ensure consistency and fairness while maintaining high morale among the Guides. Document issues for management notification.
  • Ensure Guides meet the dress code, observe tour etiquette guidelines (smoking/passenger escort/cell phone use) and execute emergency procedures as set forth by the company.
  • Assist with defining processes and implementing procedural changes.
  • Assist with analyzing tour demand and guide availability to ensure coverage coach new guides on schedule process and ensure timely bid implementation.
  • Work with Guide Manager to establish Jeep cleaning guidelines; and coach Guides on importance of Jeep appearance, cleanliness, and Jeep check-out process.
  • Observe Jeep loading and unloading of passengers to provide feedback.
  • Assist with maintaining the Guide Manual - outlining process, procedures, and company guidelines. Perform ongoing review of Guide Manual to keep material updated and fresh.
  • Demonstrate outstanding teamwork creating trust for both Guides and management.
  • Work with Guide Manager to consistently evaluate and improve policies, procedures and workflow. Ensure staff is trained, proficient and following company policies and procedures.
  • Conducts tours when business demand warrants
  • Oversees scheduling, training, and conducts performance evaluations for these departments. Holds meetings to ensure departments are kept updated on company and departmental issues, goals, and activities.
  • Develops and maintains positive ongoing relationships with the Forest Service and National Park Service, and other strategic partnerships
  • Special projects as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • One yearexperience as a Tour Guide and at least one yearof supervisory experience at a comparable level
  • Proficiency in computer applications (Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • AA Degree and/or College Degree preferred
  • Supervisory/Management training

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position works in the office to perform administrative and management responsibilities and works outdoors when conducting guided tours, training, ride-alongs, evaluations, and trail assessment and work
  • Some traveling and running errands required. Must have own vehicle
  • Ability to use computers, phone systems, calculators, copiers and general office equipment
  • Able to sit up to 8 hours a day
  • Must be able to move around office to perform duties, reach overhead, bend, push, pull, and lift up to 40 lbs.

As an occasional Guide, must be able to perform physical requirements as follows:

  • Public speaking, Guiding/Presentation of tour information to customers, answering questions up to 10 hours per day.
  • Inspects, operates, and cleans their Jeep repetitive motion involves: climbing in and out of the jeep, reaching overhead and across at chest level, bending from the waist.
  • Able to handle demanding weather extremes including temperatures ranging from 20 degrees to 100 degrees.
  • Able to work up to 12 hours/day (tour time and jeep preparation/washing). Generally two, 1 hr breaks would be given in such a day.
  • Assists customers in and out of the jeep.
  • Frequent bouncing up and down in the driver’s seat as a result of driving on rugged trails, washboard gravel roads, and climbing up and over rocks for up to 10 hrs/day.
  • Able to walk on dirt trails, uneven ground, and rock formations to point out scenic views and rock structures
  • Able to conduct hiking tours that can involve hiking up to 5 miles during a 4-hr tour.
  • Must be able to speak and hear clearly to provide quality customer service and required safety
  • May be trained in CPR/First Aid and so should be able to remain calm and effective when dealing with medical emergencies encountered.
  • Maintain efficient, daily contact and adequate radio communication with the reservation staff to assure timely tour departures and accurate Jeep assignments.
  • Safely operates the Jeep through challenging city traffic, varied Forest Service terrain, in all types of weather conditions, while crafting entertaining and informative tours.
