Job Description

The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for Pre-op, Post-op, and PACU is a registered nurse who has expertise in perioperative care and has demonstrated leadership and management skills, including continuous process improvement. The Director, using a high degree of professionalism and critical thinking, directs the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care programs for the perioperative patient population and works with associated services and clinics as appropriate. The individual is this position has responsibilities that includes preparation and administration of revenue and operating budgets and direct oversight for unit-based FTEs, including nursing and support staff working within the operating rooms, materials, and reprocessing, and works very closely with other members on the leadership team and Caribou Medical Center. The Director will maintain standards of excellent patient care and a high level of perioperative nursing competency. Consistently models excellence in professionalism and service excellence and contributes to unit leadership at a high level of proficiency.

This position will directly manage 5-10 employees. This position is an onsite position and the applicant will need to be within 30 minutes of the hospital for call purposes. The Clinical Chief Officer will work directly with the selected applicant for service line development and program improvement opportunities.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • CNOR (preferred)


  • Four (4) or more years of hospital experience with progressive experience, with three (3) or more years of business, operations, and/or financial experience encouraged.
  • Management experience required.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Healthcare Administration or a related field preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Policy and Process development.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and current trends.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent intradepartmental communication skills and interaction with patients and their families; hospital and medical staff.

  • Skill and knowledge to sustain and evaluate clinical competence for the specific age and type of patient population served.
  • Ability to understand and lead departmental culture change.
  • Will take patient and shifts as needed, ability to balance managerial staff duties.
  • Experience with culture development/staff development.
