Intro/Program Description: Goddard Riverside Community Center is one of New York City’s leading human service organizations. A well-established community-based agency, GRCC serves 22,000 people a year, meeting the basic needs of the NYC’s children, youth and families, homeless, and older adults through 27 programs at 23 sites across Manhattan.

The Goddard Riverside Options Center supports young people and adults to complete college through educational counseling, training school and community professionals, and advocating on critical issues around equity in post-secondary education. Options, 2018 Winner of the National College Access Network’s Program of Excellence Award, is a leader in college access and success in the city and the country. A member of local and national networks, Options strives to contribute to today’s critical conversations as a leader for equity. Options has supported young people to enroll in college since 1985, trained professionals to support young people since 2005, and helped college students to persist in college since 2012. Options currently serves over 2,000 people a year.


The Opportunity: Goddard Riverside now seeks a committed dynamic Director seeking to make a lasting impact on young people in NYC. This is rare opportunity to lead a well-established innovative program in postsecondary counseling and training and to be at the forefront of systems change with other leading organizations.


Goddard is seeking someone committed to

  • Supporting all NYC students, especially low-income students of color, to earn quality postsecondary degrees

The successful Director will excel at building and sustaining relationships, working collaboratively, fundraising and business development, program administration and development and creating a supportive and caring environment for staff. Goddard expects that Options will continue to offer strong effective programming, remain financially healthy, and respond nimbly to the needs of the field.

Purpose of Position: The Director of Goddard Riverside Options Center sets the vision and direction for the Options Center. Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director for Youth and Aging at Goddard Riverside Community Center, the Director of Options directly supervises the Director of Counseling and the Director of Training and is responsible for a total team of eighteen staff and at least two interns. Key aspects of the job include setting the vision and direction, fundraising, supporting Options’ data-informed culture, integrating youth leadership throughout the program, supporting Options to become an anti-racist organization, guiding advocacy efforts, and supporting the staff to be the best they can be. The Director of Options also engages in the field locally and nationally, as well as the larger Goddard Riverside community, participating in Directors Meetings and other Goddard-wide communities and events.

  • With Goddard and Options senior teams, set the vision and direction for Options
  • Provide leadership for innovative responses and program development in response to the changing college access and success field
  • Raise private funds and develop new business for Options including cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors, funders, government agencies, partner organizations, training customers and community stakeholders
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts and build Options’ capacity as a fully data-informed program
  • Ensure high quality program performance
  • Create a safe environment that promotes productive, healthy development for Options’ participants and staff and promotes skill building and professional development
  • Create an environment that promotes collaborative relationships between the counseling and training teams, between Options and #DegreesNYC*, and between Options and Goddard Riverside as a whole 
  • Supervise senior Options staff including the Deputy Director of Options/Director of Training and the Director of Counseling
  • Manage Options Center budget 
  • Oversee compliance with contracts and responses to new RFPs
  • Actively represent Goddard Riverside and Options in the college access and education fields, including serving on outside committees, presenting at conferences, and participating in lobbying efforts


Qualifications/Educational Requirements:

  • 10 years experience in non-profit programming  (ideally serving youth and/or in education field), with 5 years in management/supervisory role 
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth development principles
  • Experience leading data-informed programming
  • Strong planning and budgeting skills
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Strong speaking, writing, and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with youth programming in the greater New York City metropolitan area and relationships and experience with peer organizations and funders in this market
  • Working knowledge of technology


Computer Skills:

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint a plus)
  • Experience with Google Docs, Spreadsheets a plus
