Summary: Westfalia Technologies, Inc. is seeking a skilled Automated Parking Systems (APS) Controls Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing Electrical Controls Design of hardware and software on APS equipment built or supplied by Westfalia Technologies, Inc., including field commissioning and start-up.

Job Functions: 

  • Developing PLC and HMI code based on department standards using Siemens and Rockwell PLC software and hardware.
  • Adapting standard PLC and HMI code to new applications.
  • Debugging and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems at customer sites.
  • Conducting control system testing and commissioning.
  • Coordinating PLC programs with control system and mechanical design.
  • Providing world-class customer service to all customers.
  • Traveling to job sites as required to aid in system commissioning efforts.
  • Providing on-site customer training.
  • Providing input to product development reviews to increase ease of maintenance and reduce field failures.
  • Inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
  • Submitting all paperwork in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to write and troubleshoot PLC code (Ladder Logic and Structured Text), primarily using Siemens TIA Portal (Step 7) and secondarily using Rockwell Studio 5000.
  • Proficiency with Siemens programming software and hardware, including TIA Portal, Step 7, Step 7 Safety, and WinCC HMI software.
  • Experience with Rockwell programming software and hardware, including Logix5000 and PanelView.
  • Proficiency with PLCs, Industrial Ethernet (ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP), Motor Control and SEW VFD Drives, Relays, and Sensors.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, multimeters, and/or oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams/schematics.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic automation systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • An excellent attendance record is essential.

Education/Experience:

  • An Engineering Degree or equivalent trade experience.
  • 7 to 10 years of direct experience in the Industrial Electrical Control Field.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience.

Desired/Required:

  • A four-year Engineering Degree (Electrical or Computer Engineering).
  • CAD Software proficiency, specifically EPlan and/or AutoCAD.

Physical Requirements:

  • This role requires both physical labor and office work.
  • Must be able to communicate in a clear, concise, and active manner.
  • Must possess visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
  • Work hours occasionally include weekends and evenings for commissioning trips.
  • Working environment temperatures range from 0 degrees F to +110 degrees F during commissioning at times.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Ability to position oneself by stooping, kneeling,crouching, and crawling in and around machinery during system commissioning
