VEHICLE MECHANIC JOB SUMMARY:

The vehicle mechanic position requires troubleshooting and repair of many types of machines and their sub-systems.  Mission Ridge operates snowcats, snowmobiles, buses, plows, sanding trucks, heavy equipment, and 4x4 pickups.  Snowcat slope grooming machines are critical to the product Mission Ridge provides to the public and diagnosing and repairing these machines is a primary duty of the position.  Familiarity with gasoline and diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and hydrostatic drive systems is required. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS:

• Maintenance of all Mission Ridge operational equipment.

• Works with all mountain departments.

• Troubleshooting and diagnosis of reported and observed problems

• Maintaining a safe working environment

SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Troubleshooting and repair using hand tools, specialized tools, and electrical tools

• Basic metal fabrication 

• This position requires contact with the general public, a friendly attitude and ability to help with minor automotive problems as required.

• Requires strong communication skills with grooming staff and equipment operators.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• 2+ years on the job experience.

• Basic technical training.

• Computer and office skills or willingness to learn.

MENTAL / PHYSICAL  REQUIREMENTS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or machine controls.  

• Be able to lift or move 100 pounds or more, safely.

• Job requires good vision (color, peripheral, and depth perception).

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

• Ability to occasionally work in uncomfortable conditions such as dark, cold, snowy, muddy, hot, dusty, dirty, greasy, or smoky.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical equipment on uneven and slippery surfaces where footing can be insecure.  The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, outside weather conditions, high noise levels, and potentially harmful chemicals.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be eligible to legally drive Mission Ridge vehicles in accordance with the standards for the ski area.
