POSITION SUMMARY:

Maintains a clean infection free environment for patients and employees.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
1. Cleans patient rooms, hallways, lobby, lounges, restrooms, water fountains, offices, and other work areas.
2. Sweeps, strips, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors, using brooms mops and power cleaning appliances.
3. Use of both high and low speed buffer.
4. Dusts furniture, equipment, damp wipes glass and other specified surfaces, and other items in patient rooms, offices and other work areas.
5. Vacuums carpets in carpeted areas.
6. Washes walls, woodwork, and windows as necessary.
7. Empties trash in patient rooms, lobby, lounges, restrooms, and other work areas and transports to disposal area.
8. Restocks restrooms with supplies.
9. Strip beds after patient discharge
10. Clean IV pumps, poles, feeding pumps, PCA pumps,, and SCD pumps and hoses. Cover with clear plastic bag. Each bag is to be labeled with date, time and initial and taken to dirty utility room.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ability to work with Director and other Housekeeping staff on work schedule to ensure proper coverage.
2. Use of proper care of all Housekeeping equipment
3. Attends hospital safety and disaster training and in-services and seminars on application of chemicals and maintaining equipment.
4. Travels to other hospital facilities for housekeeping duties as needed.
5. Performs other work related duties as assigned by Director.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Well-lit, ventilated area. Works in all areas of hospital, which includes offices, bathrooms, clinic areas, all areas of Chittenden Building. Have some exposure to various chemicals and infectious disease.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, ABILITIES):
Ability to perform required tasks.
Ability to understand and follow directions given.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting up to 25 pounds.  
The ability to stand several hours at a time.  
Walking required to move from one area to another.  
Must have good vision and adequate reading skills to see and read chemical labels, signs, etc.
May have to work in cramped spaces and around staff, furniture, and equipment.
Requires stooping, bending, reaching and climbing as necessary for cleaning windows, door facings, light fixtures, baseboards, carpets, beds, furniture, and blinds.
