The Front Desk Receptionist and Administrative Assistant position is part of the admin team at Briya Public Charter School — a leading two-generation and workforce education program serving adults and immigrant parents and their young children in Washington, D.C. Briya is a Tier One Public Charter School, consistently achieving the highest educational outcomes through its innovative, family-centric programming.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Front Desk Receptionist and Administrative Assistant position may include, but is not limited to, the following tasks and responsibilities:  

  • Receive and assist families and visitors as they enter Briya  

  • Review/complete Health Screenings for all students, visitors and staff  

  • Answer phone calls and take messages 

  • Check Briya’s voice messages and distribute messages accordingly  

  • Enter information into Salesforce of those interested in enrolling in Briya  

  • Assist with Enrollment, such as SIS, proof of address, home visits, and re-enrollment  

  • Assist in placing monthly Insta-cart orders for Fort Totten site  

  • Organize Fort Totten supply closet  

  • Assist Adult Ed and Early Childhood Departments with daily student attendance/check-in phone calls when needed  

  • Input attendance excuses into Salesforce  

  • Provide support to the Early Childhood, Adult Education and Administrative Site Coordinators  

  • Update AED machine logs as needed  

  • Participate on CERT team 

  • Build community amongst staff at FT 

  • Process library cards 

  • Assist with organization of Reading Journals  

  • Assist with Student IDs  

  • Assist with preparing/activating Smartrip cards and updating Salesforce and SmartBenefits website  

  • Assist with inputting students in field trip registration excel document  

  • Assist with scheduling Parent/Teacher conferences and create reminder notes  

  • Support with MySchoolDC applications for students as needed  

  • Other duties as assigned 

Job Qualifications

The Front Desk and Administrative Assistant must have the following knowledge, skills and/or abilities:  


Education and/or Experience

  • High School degree or its equivalent  
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience in a related position.  
  • English and Spanish proficiency (other languages a plus)  
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across multiple teams  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Salesforce experience a plus  

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out moderately complex, multi-step instructions and make appropriate independent decisions as necessary.  

Physical Demands

  •  Regularly required standing, walking, and sitting, sometimes for many hours at a time; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  

Work Environment

  •  Mostly in a typical office and classroom setting with quiet to moderate noise level.
