Route Setting

Overview: A Route Setter is someone who oversees all of Sender One’s locations and embodies Sender One’s core values when making decisions. At their gym location, the Route Setter ensures theys are on track setting based on Sender One’s standards and policies.


  • Embodies Sender One core values, setting the standard for the rest of Sender One route setting team, and builds and sustains a staff and community culture that aligns with Sender One’s core values, purpose, and brand promise; 
  • Builds engaging, challenging, and aesthetically-pleasing climbs for a multitude of audiences, which meet a variety of criteria as laid out in Route Setter Metrics, and supervised by the Gym Foreman;
  • Maintains walls, hardware, climbing tools, and machinery to a high standard, and conducts periodic inspections of the aforementioned items;
  • Maintains a professional Work-at-Height standard and holds team members and leaders accountable to the same standard;
  • Forerunning teams climb and engage in active, productive, and positive discussions about the efficacy, metrics, and qualities or detriments of various climbs.


  • An experienced and trusted advisor for staff - discover & connect with others;
  • Delegate and communicate with staff clearly and respectfully;
  • Passionate about climbing, working with kids, and instructing;
  • Ability to harness imagination and find novel approaches to shared responsibilities;
  • Ability to learn and grow from each task, challenge, and interaction while seeing them through to the end;
  • Open to receiving & providing feedback, guidance, insight, assistance, and perspective in a professional manner;

Industry Experience:

  • Top rope & lead belay experience required;
  • Critical and strategic thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills;
  • Knowledge of Google Suite – Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Drive, etc.;
  • Knowledge of Rock Gym Pro reporting preferred;
  • Knowledge of Basecamp preferred;

Time Commitment:

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per work week (Sun - Sat);
  • Must be fully available to work weekends when needed for special events, training, shadows etc. (Sat & Sun);
  • Must be able to work certain morning, night, and alternate weekend day shifts depending on business and/or operational needs;
  • Must be able to attend the Weekly Strategy other relevant meetings;
  • Must be able to attend the Mandatory All Staff Quarterly meeting.
