MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs Braille transcription of a variety of printed materials into Braille code using transcription software
• Transcribes materials in both literary and Nemeth codes
• Formats textbooks using “Braille Formats: Principles of Print to Braille Transcription” (2016)
• Proofreads and verifies accuracy of Braille-coded materials prior to quality assurance review
• Prepares Braille materials (e.g., tests, textbooks, magazines, NLS trade books, study materials, charts, tactile illustrations, research documents, menus, impressers, and other related media aids) using specialized computer software, equipment, tools, techniques and standards set forth by the Braille Authority of North America (BANA)
• Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences related to ongoing certification as required
• Communicates with outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues
• Analyzes and interprets graphical material for Braille tactile graphics and incorporates proper Braille usage or tooling as required
