JOB title:  CNC Programmer - Plastics

REPORTS TO:  Plastics Operations Manager 

Job Classification:  Full Time

Job Status:  Non-Exempt

 

JOB Purpose: 

Responsible for developing machining processes and programs for the manufacturing of plastic products in multiple-axis machining centers utilizing Solidworks, Catia and Mastercam. Identify and implement process improvement and cost reductions through productivity improvement, fixture design and machine time reductions.

 

ESSENTIAL Responsibilities: 

  • Develop machining processes, fixtures and programs for the manufacturing of plastic products in multiple-axis machining centers while interfacing with tool engineers, manufacturing engineers, project managers, quality assurance and production personnel
  • Analyze part drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selecting cutting tools, and machine speeds and feeds, according to knowledge of machine shop processes
  • Interface with Project Managers and Quality Assurance to create manufacturing drawings from customer supplied Model Based Definition CAD models
  • Create instruction and setup documentation including tool lists to guide setup and operation of the machining centers
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to bring to fruition any assembly, process or cost reducing fixturing as identified

 

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of CNC and Manual machine operations
  • Able to read and interpret drawings/blueprints and customer specific specifications
  • Clear understanding of GD&T
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks, Catia and Mastercam
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, customers and vendors
  • Be able to think outside the box and keep things moving
  • Work effectively in a face paced environment with time constraints on tasks being performed
  • Reading comprehension; understanding written specifications, best practices and work instructions
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years of experience Setting Up and Running CNC & Manual Mills and Lathes
  • Two (2) years of experience programming CNC machines
  • One (1) year of experience working with Solidworks and Mastercam

Work is mainly performed in an office environment, and intermittingly in a manufacturing environment.  The noise level in these work environments fluctuate based on activities, but is usually low (office) to moderate (shop floor).
