Academic Approach’s Mission

Academic Approach began with a focused mission: to mentor students while building their skills. By collaborating with dozens of Chicago public, charter, and parochial high schools, the School Programs team brings Academic Approach’s curricular and instructional expertise to underserved student populations.


As a School Programs Substitute Instructor, you will teach a cohort of students a specialized standardized test-prep course with a focus on English and Language Arts. Instructors guide students on transferring highly tested skills to real-world applications and help them expand their post high-school options. Apply now for part-time employment with purpose.


We are currently hiring Substitute Teachers in the Chicago metropolitan area, Glenbard, Plainfield, Lemont, Minooka, Rockford, and Lake Forest for the Winter and Spring 2020 semesters.

      • Saturdays: 9am-1pm
      • Wednesdays: 8am-1pm
    • Glenbard, IL
      • Tuesdays: 2:45pm – 8:30pm
      • Thursdays: 2:45pm – 8:30pm
    • Plainfield, IL
      • Wednesdays: 2:30pm – 7:30pm
      • Thursdays: 2:30pm -7:30pm
      • Saturday: 9:00am – 11:00am

      • Mondays, (6:30pm - 8:30pm)
      • Wednesdays, (6:30pm - 8:30pm)
    • ​​​​​​​Minooka, IL​​​​​​​
      • Wednesday: 3:45pm - 5:30pm
      • Wednesday: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
    • ​​​​​​​Rockford, IL
      • ​​​​​​​Tuesday: 3:45 - 6:15pm
      • Thursday: 3:45 - 6:15pm
      • Saturday: 9:00am - 3:00pm

  • If called-in to substitute, you will be paid at the $40/hour School Programs Instructional rate. If you are not called-in, you will still be paid at our administrative rate of $15 per hour.



  • A bachelor's degree in any subject or major
  • High standardized test scores in English, math, reading, or science
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to teach and mentor successfully
