About ProAct Indy:
The Problem
Dr. Sen, who has made groundbreaking contributions to economic and social justice research defines poverty as capability deprivation in which a persons ability to acquire food, to achieve upward mobility, or to ensure education for ones children, determine whether they can be considered poor. Several factors, including income and the political and societal environment that a person is living in, influence a persons capabilities. Therefore, poverty is a social injustice that needs to be alleviated. If we all work together to create positive and sustainable change, even the poorest communities in Indianapolis can thrive.
With this notion in mind, we believe that the best place to start is with our youth to help them discover capabilities that will enable them to thrive for years to come. ProAct believes that engaging youth in community service that has a deliberate focus on social justice can equip youth with the 21-century skills required to adapt and improve upon the modern work environment. There is a dire need for disadvantaged youth to be involved in service-learning activities that proactively foster an environment of cooperative engagement that is conducive to learning, growing, and fellowship.
The Response
ProAct Indy is driven by the desire to change how youth and communities experience one another. We define community service as intentionally building and creating meaningful relationships that truly inspire youth and transform communities.
ProAct is a pioneering critical service-learning and community engagement nonprofit that provides strategic community engagement programs that are integrated between each organization in which we partner. Were on a mission to connect people from diverse backgrounds and demonstrate that a more humane, equitable, and effective community is possible through intentional, sustainable relationships.
The ProActive Community Model
Beginning with our youth, our organizational and program model leverages the social capital of the community to empower and support the people our youth serve. Nonprofit organizations provide service opportunities and in-kind support for our youth programs while corporate and philanthropic partners provide financial and volunteer support to serve alongside our youth and build transformational relationships. We leverage social capital through consistent leadership training, facilitated service projects, and volunteer management assistance.
This model is sustained over the course of many weeks, months, and years to give our youth consistent, caring adults who mentor them and teach valuable 21st Century Skills, provides young professionals within partnering companies with leadership skills and personal development opportunities, provides companies with a complete community engagement solution for their staff and gives volunteer managers within nonprofits consistent support around meaningful volunteer engagement.
The Team
Were a community of advocates committed to our mission to stand in the gap for vulnerable populations while empowering youth to actively transform their communities. Our organization is comprised of a central support team and a growing network of Community Impact Trainers who work in their local communities to provide strategic community engagement, programs for youth, corporate employees, and nonprofit leaders who support and manage our training and community engagement efforts on the ground.
Position Summary:
Community Impact Concierges (CIC) are community members within Indianapolis committed to community service, social justice, and leadership development. They are part of the Community Impact Team of ProAct Indy, leveraging the social capital of businesses and nonprofits, implementing intentional community engagement programs, and supporting vulnerable youth in area schools to amplify their voice and action. We are strengthening our operations in Indianapolis and looking for Community Impact Concierges to support our strategic community engagement programs and our growing team on the ground.
Working closely with the Director of Partner Engagement and our Community Impact Team, the Community Impact Concierge will help facilitate the implementation and support functions for the organization and support our youth programs. In this position, you will maintain a consistent culture in the organization with regard to the implementation of the innovative ProActive Community Model. The performance of the organization is highly dependent on support from the Community Impact team.
This position requires an individual who is not afraid to ask why, someone who consistently and effectively communicates with an Outward Mindset, someone who suggests improvements within our organization and takes initiative to constantly improve organizational effectiveness with a practical, clear plan.
This position will facilitate, support, and serve as the primary resource for any community and programmatic needs of ProAct's staff, our youth program participants, community members, and the workforce of our corporate and nonprofit partners.
A successful person in this position will be people-centered, a servant leader who understands our work is not about ourselves, extremely organized, punctual, communicate effectively, lead by example with a find a way attitude, possess a keen attention to detail, and demonstrate flexibility and innovation to work with different aspects of our organization's diverse team and populations. This also requires some natural inclination to recognize and solve complex problems, implement solutions, and drive change no matter how big the obstacles might seem. Good communication and collaboration are key for this role.
Responsibilities:
Community Impact Concierges are essential to implementing ProAct's organizational, programmatic, and strategic activities because they manage and broker the relationships between our partnering schools, businesses, and community organizations and track and report on their impact to each partner they oversee to ensure quality, consistency, and trust.
This innovative role helps ProAct build its capacity and presence in the community which ultimately provides more support to our youth by giving them another caring adult who ensures positive outcomes in their lives. Community Impact Concierges are account managers to our business partners, assistant volunteer managers to our nonprofit partners, and implementation specialists to our partner schools.
In addition to managing our partnerships, Community Impact Concierges uphold our holistic model by working within the local community and collaborating with our central management team to advance our mission within unreached communities. This will entail planning and managing engaging service projects with partner nonprofits, being a resource and supporter to educators and youth in schools, and training and supporting corporate and nonprofit employees who utilize our services.
Our work is widely published and made available to partner organizations that are focusing on youth advocacy, social justice, and building transformational relationships. By diligently cataloging our results and empowering our partners to take center stage in supporting our youth, Community Impact Concierges allow us to become the hub for community engagement in Indianapolis and amplify youth voice.
