As part of the Professional Learning team, the Director of Strategic Communications will oversee both the strategy and execution of internal and external messaging and events.  Additionally the Director will be the marketing point of contact for our authors and other key contributors.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Use up-to-date knowledge of educational trends and best practices to provide an appropriate education perspective in all marketing, including print and online tools.
  • Manage all logistics related to key customer events, such as Customer Advisory Boards and Presenters’ Conferences.
  • Manage all logistics related to key employee-facing events, such as the National Sales Meetings.
  • Work as part of a team to identify and manage community facing events to raise brand awareness and fulfill our mission and vision.
  • Provide the strategic direction on industry trade shows across all channels, recommending participation, events, evaluating new conferences, and measuring success.
  • Act as the author point of contact within marketing to both launch new products and to enhance the authors’ experience with TCM and Shell Education. 
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships across our audiences to provide a positive image of Teacher Created Materials and Shell Education.
  • Contribute to the company blog, including setting the topic calendar and recruiting guest authors. 
  • Consistently demonstrate effective leadership and mentoring skills to build capacity of staff.
  • Develop related budget and maintain oversight over costs to achieve specific profitability goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • K-12 classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the educational market, competitors, sales channels, and end user needs
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities in both short-term and long-term goals
  • Demonstrated research, strategic decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Strong people management and team leadership skills
  • Proficient in MS Office suite


Physical Requirements:

  • Sit for extended periods of time; including at a computer.
  • Occasional lifting up to 15 lbs.
  • Repetitive hand and wrist movements for frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Travel required.


Work Conditions: General office environment with travel required.
