Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Specialist (“Specialist”) works closely with the Quality Assurance Manager, and through various internal and externally generated analytical techniques, helps to ensure the consistency and quality of our products. The Specialist should have experience in quality management systems, food science, supplement manufacturing or a closely-related field. The Specialist must possess the necessary skills and relevant experience to lead quality assurance programs, including regular inspections of the facility, ingredients, and finished products, and risk assessment of ingredients and processing steps.

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs QA inspections on all ingredients, packaging material, and finished goods
  • Participates in inventory reporting and communication to quality, sales and finance teams
  • Inspects and samples product to ensure that all HACCP/HARPC guidelines are met
  • Identifies areas of continual improvement within the QMS
  • Verification of batch recipes and MMRs
  • Ensures product labeling is complaint with state, federal, and Prop 65 guidelines
  • Ensures environmental monitoring program swabs are taken in accordance with program schedule and proper SOP followed
  • Maintains accurate documentation of quality inspection results, discuss inspection results with those responsible for products, and recommend necessary corrective actions
  • Generates certificates of analyses (COA)
  • Documents all activities accurately and thoroughly, writes new and reviews current SOPs
  • Active participant on the food safety team
  • Follows quality and pre-requisite programs related to designated area
  • Participates in company safety and production meetings
  • Supports the order fulfillment process

Education and Experience

  • Two (2) years of prior experience in a food grade, dietary supplement, or pharmaceutical industry quality control laboratory environment; commercial cGMP and/or manufacturing experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, food safety, chemistry, biology or in a related field
  • Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certified
  • Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) certified
  • Working knowledge of cGMP, HACCP, OSHA, and other regulatory and safety requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and perform work with limited daily direct supervision
  • Demonstrated high sense of urgency and ownership of assigned tasks
